Wi-Fi set to off but still available?

My son noticed today a strange thing. My wifi setting is set to off and I have no data plan with Chevy but the Wi-Fi icon is still on the display and my son's tablet gets prompted that "wifi networks are available". Is there a way to permanently turn it off?

Don't waste your time. The icon is on all the time. I haven't had the wifi enabled since the 3 month promo wore off 2 years ago. The wifi icon is still on in my truck.

I've notice this since the beginning at it's annoying. If I leave wifi on in my phone, I sometimes can't get data because it's trying to connect to the damn truck. I'm anxious to hear what the dealer says, but they probably have no clue. I have some wifi security tools so I'll have to make some time to poke around and see if I can find out what's really going on.

I understand but an OFF setting should disable Wi-Fi. Even if I have it OFF, it still shows as an available network when I scan networks on my phone. Kinda annoying and makes you wonder what hackers can do the car. Even if you cannot connect your phone, they may find a way to use it.

Had this problem as well when I bought my '17 Colorado. I called OnStar and they disabled the Wifi connectivity completely. The reason why it still shows up, even after cancelling, is all about OnStar making a few $$ off someone's carelessness/negligence.

Think of it like this, all those Pay-Per-View channels that are available when you stay at a Hotel. It's so easy to accidentally purchase a Movie, but it's done that way so the Hotels can make a little $$. It is an ugly practice but some blame can be put on the consumer for failing to read or follow the instructions.

I purchase the wifi on my 16' Colorado. For several months, I have not had wifi even though I am paying the fee, plus my Onstar button is red and is not working, any help troubleshooting the system would be appreciated. i don't want to take to Chevy garage for troubleshooting. I watched a video on Youtube, that you can disconnect the onstar, clean with electrical cleaner and plug back in and problem solved... anyone here try this and it worked?
