After the engine warms up a little an extremely loud ticking has been coming from the purge valve canister. I had replaced this piece twice now and I can still hear it easily with windows up at idle. Is this normal? It seems that the engine would be quiet if it wasn't for this annoying clicking. The only answers I can find has been to replace the canister (which I've done twice now), does anyone know if there are any other issues in this system that would cause the purge valve to be operating as erratically and loud as it does? Any help would be appreciated, thanks

What brand are you replacing it with? I heard some issues with the cheaper purge valve replacements.

The first replacement was absolutely cheap, was a $30 piece I found on Amazon because I thought it was a little odd that the purge valve would be making this much noise at 80k. The noise did not leave and I chose to give it another try with my recent oil change and put in a OE spec valve that was 4$ less than the ACdelco valve (didn’t buy the AC because it wasn’t available at the moment). This $68 purge valve makes again the same noise. I’ll see if I can get a video on here and you guys can tell me if you think the rattle is normal, I might be just crazy but i can’t get over how loud it is

Some ticking from the Purge Valve Solenoid is normal. Have not known of it to be loud. If you replace, go AC Delco! I carry a spare in my tool box, because failure is a common thing.

I only paid $26 shipped for an AC Delco on eBay.

Sometime after 15, the part was redesigned. You don't hear about ticking on later trucks. Stay OEM on these things and you will get the updated parts.

You could be correct. However if you have the opportunity to hear the tick in person with a Colorado, open the hood and place your finger on the canister. You can feel the sound and vibrations are constant with each other at a rate in which could make one think that is where the sounds are coming from.

I had also replaced mine twice. Then I read that if you continue to pump gas after the nozzle clicks off, you are overfilling you gas tank, and can suck liquid gas (not vaper) into the canister. That will ruin it. Now I let the nozzle click off, and add no more. So far, no additional replacements needed. Just a thought.

I've had the same issue with the purge valve incessantly ticking on my 2015 Colorado LT (I popped the hood and put hands on it while the engine was running and it definitely felt like that was the cause of the ticking).

I just did a coolant flush, it was time and I have been running low on coolant, and now the ticking is gone.. No idea why it did stopped, but I even had my local Firestone do an inspection and everything is running the way it should..
