Seat Upgrade

Hi All,

I'm not too happy with the (only) 4 way adjustment on the drivers seat. I'm getting on in years and sitting that thing for over 2 hours is getting to be a real PITA. (pun intended)

I was wondering if it were possible to use the seats from the Denali version. I currently have a 2016 Canyon SLT. If so, would the existing seat heater controls still work - I have a bad back and the seat back only option is great?

Assuming they could be found at a reasonable price, is this feasible? If not, what alternatives are available? Perhaps the seat frame could be swapped and then I could rig up some sort of switch to control the other functions.

Anything new on this swap? I'll try anything to make my 18 SLT seat more comfortable.
6'4 280...I'm way too big for this seat, most uncomfortable car seat I've ever had period. And it's obliviously not a matter of leg room, that's about the only thing that's more than adequate, it's that bolster trim all around the seat part, I call it a thigh speed bump and that the up and down adjustment isn't really up and down but more of a up/tilt/down.

Hi there! Yes! I just bought a 2019 Canyon (18k) and my biggest problem (unresolved to date) is the drivers seat. Very poor bolstering. My 2011 Ford Fiesta now 10 years old is far more comfortable and this is a cheap throw away car bought for less than 20k. If anyone has a good replacement seat that is more comfortable I would love to hear from them. It was a serious screw up on GMC's behalf in my opinion. I too am over 250# and this seat is very uncomfortable. A truck should be comfortable when paying so much money for it. Other than the seat I do love my Canyon. 2 months in at this point. Thanks in advance for any input :)

Yeah, the seats on the Colorado isn't that comfortable. My 2019 Acadia is much more comfortable than my 2018 Colorado ZR2. The only issue I would say about a seat swap would be the side airbag that's in the front seats. In was thinking of changing out the bottom foam to something that is a bit bigger and more supportive. I've been wondering if the Recaro seats from the Focus ST would fit in the Colorado seat frame.

Yeah doing something with the bottom foam would fix a lot of the problem. I read that some have had it actually cut and adjusted by an upholstery shop. That's an option but I think getting the new adjustment that the 19 has might help also and that should be just a track/frame swap and maybe not too expensive.

The 2019 Drivers Seat has the upgraded modification to cushion height, to address the complaints that owners have had since 2015 about the drivers seat cushion being too high in the front, causing leg fatigue and uncomfortable ride. My son has a 19 Canyon WT, and I see the difference. Much more comfortable.

I do not know how they would wire in the 6 way power to your 4 way pigtail. Just the swapping out of the bottom frame and seat cushion, would accomplish a comfortable ride without having the 6 way adjustment. You may want to go just test drive a 19 model truck and see. The seat cushion is about 2” lower, thinner, which will help with your uncomfortable.

the dealer wouldn't do this.

They would need a new wiring harness, control module and lower seat.
Add labor to this and you're well above the roi.

Yes, I can agree with you on the ‘roi’.

For now, I placed under the front 1/3 of the OEM foam cushion (and between the side bolsters) a two-inch thick cut out piece of aftermarket seat foam, this lifts the front third section just enough to provide suppport under my knees, I’ll see how this works out.

A few weeks ago I bought the wife a 2019 Terrain Denali and we just completed a 2,000+ mile trip with it. The seats are fantastic and while we don't complaint about the seats in my Colorado, I'd love to change them to the Terrain Denali seats. We tested a non-Denali and there was a noticeable difference in the seats.

Here is the best picture of the seats I could get, ignore the Badgers seat belt pad, that is definitely the wifes.

paulj, are you just wanting a picture of a 4 way LT connector, and if so can it be a 16 model LT? Or does it have to be a picture of the 19 model 6 way?

Just looking at GM Parts Direct and hoping to find the seat wiring harness with 6 way seat for a 2019 Canyon Denali, and could not find it. However, I did notice that there are 3 different Body Control Modules. Kind of make one wonder if it is more to the swap.
