My grandfather bought Chevys, my father bought Chevys, I bought Chevys until my brand new 2005 Colorado. It will be my last Chevy I ever buy. I am here to figure out how to fix the endless problems the 2005 Chevy Colorado poses.

I hate German brands.

Buy anything built by VW Group and report back in 7 years.
VW, Porsche, Audi, Bugatti, Ducati. I know I missed a few and it just doesn't matter. MBZ is a mess IMO and BMW not much better - but it is better.

Non UV stable plastics
Rear subframe mounts work hardening and stress fracturing at front and rear subframe mounting points.
MBZ non protected body panels rusting
Dropping bolts into BMW variable camshaft timing assemblies
Failing BMW SMG transmission pumps because the duty cycle exceeded that of the ABS systems they were derived from.
Fast wearing timing chains mounted in the rear of Audi engines.
Non pressure fed secondary shaft bearings in Cayman/911 engines. FTLOG - Why?
Never mind service part prices.

Sold an M3 and happily driving my unreliable Colorado diesel. Rattles - sure. Stranding failures - not so much.

I still have a fast car and it's a ZX636. It's bullet proof and seems to require less maintenance than my JD lawn mower. More about that on this site.

These guys are'nt dumb. They know you are making the purchase to thumb your nose at your neighbor. They know nothing matters once the next model year is out and you can't do that any more. Why make it last any longer? You won't make any more profit.

Granted American (Specifically GM) product support IMO is piss-poor. Try dealing with Das Germans.

I'll second the MB and BMW being crap, I have no experience with those others. Can someone tell me why a car in this day and age leaks oil out of pan gaskets and rear main seals at like 70k miles? This ain't the 60s and 70's.

IMO BMW is the best of the crap - but still crap.
Anything VW group the worst.
MBZ holding up the non spectacular by any measure mid low reliability segment.
BMW owned Mini is problematic - oddly due primarily to a Japanese transmission.
I don't know who owns Land Rover this week but just stay away.
Volvo was bad under Swede ownership. The one I heard today tended to indicate that neither Ford or the Chinese have improved much.

I'm thinkin' maybe a mule and a Radio Flyer wagon.

All that said, I am currently in the process of picking up a functional P-08. However any appeal there has nothing to do with reliability.

Hey - and thanks for asking...

I had good luck with my Crossfire, which is a mb slk320, made in Germany, the biggest problem is the coding, in 2004 chevy used 20,000 lines of coding and mb used 240,000 ish lines of coding.
Solid undercoating, did all the work myself on it.
Glad I did not have a major electrical issue.

Simple solution, get rid of it. Problem solved, and enjoy life!

I don't know. I like the OP's approach. I'm thinking about joining a Ford Ranger site and commenting on how high the build quality is on the 2021s based on the great results I had with my 1989 Ranger. I'm sure my single sample bought decades earlier is good evidence of the quality of today's product.

Its been nothing but problems day one. Numerous electrical, PCM, lights, power windows, various sensors, clutch, blower, AC, transmission all before 50K. Goes through light bulbs at lease once a month. Has a new problem about every 6 months. It has only 137k on it because no one trusts driving it anymore. Three times family members have been stranded in the middle of nowhere with a nonworking Colorado. Currently has a bad starter that requires taking half the engine apart to get to. 45 years of buying cars and this one has been the biggest regret. Anyone who does a little research soon finds out why Chevy no longer makes decent trucks. If you doubt that go look at resale values of Colorado's compared to Ford or Toyotas of the same year. Will never buy a Chevy again.

Obvious troll bait, but I'll bite.

your problem is obvious. The G1 series had plenty of problems. The G2, with the exception of the initial 8spd shudder issue and some 6spd programming, the series has been very good overall.
Its just not fair to judge Chevy as a whole based on the failures of one series of vehicle.

Every complicated vechicle of today has its issues, most of the issues come from the owner and the dealer.
And a problem that nobody wants to work on their own stuff....
Just pass it on and pay the bill.

Did you take it to the same shop every time ?

I liked my 89 ranger I had, but speaking of a starter bolt, you should try changing all the spark plugs on a 2.4l 4 cylinder in a 89 ranger.

All vechicles today have items that are a pita to get to.
My 76 cj7 with a 304 v8 is easy to work on, but there is only a few wires on it and that is for the lights.

Wish you luck with your ford, not like there are not issues with them also.

Same with everything in life, adapt and overcome.
Get it figured out and going and move on.
If you onky think of the bad, you never have any good....

Eh, I just a car for the car, not the brand. I know I know, that's not normal... This isn't the 80's, pretty much everyone makes a good reliable car these days and every brand has it's lemons. If you buy something old with 100k miles, you need to budget repairs. If you buy the first year of a new model, congrats, you are part of the beta testing team.

As it happens, right now GM has a couple of the best vehicles in their category IMHO. Colorado, obviously, is my top pick for a truck. For full size, honestly I'd probably go Silverado. Ask me 5 or 10 years ago, it would have been Ford or Ram or possibly even Toyota. Fullsize SUV - Tahoe, no question. Sports car? I don't have a new one, but how can anyone argue against the awesomeness of the Corvette? Boring sedan? Probably Subaru.. EV? Sorry GM, until you release rwd/awd you are not even an option - I have a BMW i3, but if I were to buy new EV today it would probably be a Mustang Mach-e (horrible name BTW, never should have attached Mustang to a crossover). Small to midsize suv, probably the new Bronco, but I've owned a lot of Jeeps and depending on what I was after I could see adding another... A bit long winded, but you get my point.

My 04 had problems too. Loved the truck though. Passlock bypassed by clipping a wire while on a fishing trip. Cat replaced. Transmission had issues but got fixed. Still Loved the truck. Traded it in for a 13 Jeep JKU. It's been in the shop for 3 months trying to fix issues after my timing chain was replaced. Trading it in for a 21 ZR2 Bison. My Jeep is nickle and dime-ing me. Trust Chevy any day over this Jeep!

A neighbor just sold his 15 year old Ford 350 , he used it to tow his 5th wheel to Florida and back to Missouri every year.
He said it was always leaking something and brakes and other things would go bad, but was told more then once that if he would drive it more then 4 days year it would not have as many problems

My 2011 Canyon had the paslock issue but other then a left front wheel bearing , never gave me problems

I had a boss who only used his large truck (I don't remember what it was) once a year to tow his huge boat about 150 miles and back. Everything was problematic. One year he had one of the two outdrives go bad, a trailer bearing and something with an exhaust or intake manifold on the truck. The next year was worse. The boat sank!
