I’ve been towing a 12’ cargo trailer for work a good bit lately but looking to rent an RV before buying my own. I am looking keeping the length under 23’ and dry weight around 3500 plus cargo. I will also have a WD hitch for the RV. It is just me and two dachshunds so no need for anything

I am in Hershey, PA and I’ve towed the trailer to Raleigh, NC and JFK Airport in NYC. The NYC trip was a little scary due to how narrow the lanes are and how much traffic their is but I got it back with all corners in tack.

Overall, I haven’t had any issues towing. The only time I’ve noticed it starts to sway is when I get in a tractor trailers “dirty air” on the highway. Then it gets a little swirly. I’ve had heavy cross winds on the highway with the trailer empty and that was scary as the trailer was swaying and bouncing a lot. Otherwise, keeping it loaded (and a full tank of gas) seems to help with the swaying.

After some 34K-miles towing a light travel trailer, less than 2900# , at the end of June I towed a 5100# trailer+boat combination and was super pleased with how the V6 handled the job.

Highway speed was kept in the 55-58 MPH range with Tow-Haul engaged and 8-speed "L limited' to 6th gear. That was done for my comfort and to help the fuel mileage which was 14.2 MPG. Hand calculated, the truck was reporting 15 MPG over the full 300 mile trip.

CatScale data with full gas tank and some gear in the truck bed:

Front Axle . . . . 2600# on GAWR of 3200#
Rear Axle . . . . 3120# on GAWR of 3500#
Trailer Axle(s) 5100# on GAWR of 6000#

I did not measure tongue weight; Travel Trailer removes the rake so when towing the truck is level,
Boat dropped another 1-inch lower than front. axle center to fender top center.

Picture of rig (low tongue due to a Drop-2 hitch ball, I have since moved to a Rise-1 hitch ball)

And because I have an Extended Cab, the 6-foot step ladder needed to board the boat is safely in the
cargo box not sticking out - - - - so wish the 3rd Gen had an Extended Cab option.

We regularly tow a 2 horse trailer. Probably 3500 with 1 horse and 4700+/- with 2 horses. Despite that the ratings say the opposite, the black ZR2 is better than the Redline that is hooked up in the photo, when towing. Gearing?

Also use ZR2 to regularly tow the hay trailer with 2 - 1200lbs large square bales. Probably 3500 lbs total. Don't event know its there. Have gone to about 4300 lbs total with that trailer no issues.

Heading to the rocky mountains tomorrow. 2600km round trip, not overly heavy 6x14 v nose single axle with my motorcycle inside.
Will be first real tow test with my truck with a mix of everything. Not sure what too expect for fuel mileage but hoping it isn't too bad.

Wondering what folks are towing with their Colorados?
I was looking at travel trailers yesterday, the one I picked is a bit heavier than I was looking for @ 4300 lbs.
ORV | Black Rock 20RD
Tow it with the 2nd gen cclb and the wife’s ZR2. Anything bigger than that and the Dodge gets to come out and play.

I float this barge Macgregor 26X (26 ft.) in central BC and tow it with a 2019 Canyon Denali 3.6 gas. My weight guess is approaching 4,000 lbs boat & trailer. Having said that I only tow it 15 kms each way to the boat launch. No problem. I recently removed the old trailer drum brakes and added a new surge brake actuator and new Kodiak disc brakes. It's a nice mod indeed. I've considered moving it to southern BC but even with the new trailer disc brakes I'm having reservations. Obviously their is no shortage of mountain passes in Canada's Rockies. Would it labor?...possibly? Still on the fence moving it that long distance of over 1000 kms. We'll see...regardless the disc brake mod will help the resale one day.

Howdy yall!,
I want to get a travel trailer I won't regret. I have a 2016 Colorado WT with a V-6. She only has 40K. Bought her new and just as soon keep her. The load info on the inside door state 705kg/ 1555lbs.
Anybody have an idea what would be a good weight / length to stay under or around? Thanks for the help in advance... I might be flat on occasion and mountainy on other occasions?

You may be better served starting a thread and posting what you have in mind as far as what you think you want... that way we can either support you or crush your dreams. (Kididng)

I put > 4000 miles on this one, going from NH to IL and back twice so far. Isn't much, 1700 lbs with the bike+toolbox loaded up. Easy tow at whatever speed, just comes down to how much fuel you want to burn.

I started with a basic cheap A frame 5x10 carry on 2200 lb trailer that I picked up for real short $$. Put a nonskid fiberglass & plywood deck on it to make it a little more one-piece and strong on center for the bike, through bolted it down to the cross members. Added 2x spare tire carriers by welding spindles on. Picked up new a set of radial 87 mph wheels+tires, had them balanced. Added a little steel to the gate to make sure the bike didn't bend it. Bolted my bike stand on there. Bolted on a tool box for a jack and tools. Packed up some new dexter hubs with good Lucas stuff. Ran the new hubs and tires, used the originals as spares. The axle lacked grease fittings so added bearing buddies. End result I can do 85 MPG with this setup, hot weather whatever, cool tires & bearings, straight stable, easy, super happy with it, perfect bike hauler :)

Took a thousand+ mile trip to Silver Lake and back last weekend.
Total weight of probably 1,500 lbs, couldn't even feel it back there!

Usually I take 3 quads to Silver Lake and have 1.25 wheel spacers on.
This year with only 2 quads lined up straight and no wheel spacers I averaged at least 1.5 miles a gallon better !
