Topping Off Fluids: Coolant Recommendations

Time for me to top off the coolant per the owner's manual. I've checked out a couple threads about coolant and there seems to be slight concern about using Premix Coolant. My coolant reservoir level is slightly low. I will be taking several long distance trips in the heat of Summer in the near future. For convenience it makes sense for me to use the premix. But before I make my purchase I want to make sure I get this right. I plan to stick with OEM. Is this the correct coolant: ACDelco 10-5027 DEX-COOL 50/50 Premix Coolant 12378390? I ask because, when I go to GM parts sites I get the message that the coolant does not fit/match my vehicle.

I am here to learn. I would appreciate suggestions, help on this simple matter.

Searching Chevrolet‘s parts website only turned up one option direct from GM and that is the non-mixed Dex-Cool Coolant. My guess is that the part number you have is New Old Stock based on when I enter the part number you have, it does not come up on Chevrolet Parts. The below is the latest part number for Dex-Cool. I too would rather use a 1 gallon pre-mix as I wouldn’t need 2 gallons of coolant.

Why is there a concern about using 50/50 premix? The only concern would be if the original concentration was inadequate, using 50/50 would only slightly increase the concentration. If you use 100% coolant, then you might make the mix too concentrated which reduces its cooling capacity.

I'd use Dex 50/50 of any brand and call it a day (and I'm kind of a nut about using factory/OE parts). If you do buy concentrate, make sure to mix only with distilled water. No tap.

I prefer the Dexcool concentrate and do my own 50/50 mix with distilled water. When I do a coolant flush, I use only distilled water.

If I add to the bottle, I add the little bit of straight concentrate.

My 2015 Chevy Sonic was also Dexcool. So yes to your question. Both gasoline powered and diesel powered vehicles from a certain year on. Now that I said that I am sure there will be an oddball GM vehicle listed somewhere otherwise. The only exception comes to mind is the electric vehicles. I have two gallon containers already self pre-mix.
Between my Chevy Cruze diesel and Colorado diesel operating in the hot south Florida weather small occasional top offs are needed.

I keep a gallon of the GM Dexcool concentrate on hand for topping off the resovoirs in my 16 Colorado and 02 Trans Am. Both use the Dexcool and I don’t believe in mixing fluids, especially the Dexcool.
