If these are the two things you've ID'd about not liking your new Colorado - I think that speaks pretty well for the Colorado.

I'd like it more I'd new for 2024 was a 74" bed on a crew cab, would make me cream my tighty whities.

You'd think as an Overland built truck, they'd think customers would want the extra payload, and as a truck, the extra towing stability an extra 12" wheelbase offers

 

I thought the wiper switch was a bit weird, but 6 days in I'm getting used to it, and it's operation makes sense. I knew about the sliding rear window going in, since my 2018 had one. I had always wanted one, however it was surprising how little I used it. The sunroof on the other hand, will get used much more than that rear window.

Never used the rear slider, and prefer the look of the single piece of glass, but whatever. It's not the end of the world.

Sunroof is nice, but I've never had one from GM that doesn't rattle, so that is a hard pass for me.

 

I agree with you on the rear window.
I really like the "new" solid rear window on my 2017 ZR2, should have broke it 5 years ago.

Maybe the rear window will just shatter and you can tell the dealer to just put in a solid one.

I did notice the 2023 WT and Trail Boss that I have seen had a solid rear window

as for the wiper controls, you will get use to it
my wifes vehicle is like that so I sometimes get confused switching back and forth between vehicles

 

I’ve had at least five pickups with sliding rear windows. Only one was power operated. It was a 1988 GMC K 1500 that I had a power rear window put in. It was made by a company called, oddly enough, POWERSLIDER. So I can speak from personal experience, YES the power switch makes the bars ABSOLUTELY INVISIBLE! 😂

 

I gotta admit that after switching from an '18 without the sliding rear window to a '22 with one, I'm not crazy about the "bars" either. Honestly, I doubt that I'll ever use that rear window feature, so I could easily live without it.

Personally I prefer one lever instead of two. GM Smart stalk is my preference.
Slider, have had many over the years and non were power. IMO, for the most part they are useless unless you have a topper on and need to reach through to grab stuff. Slider open allows too much dirt/debris to enter the cab.

 

I found it to be a convenient access for bees to get sucked in and wedged between my fingers that are wrapped around the steering wheel. As you said, debris, leaves, even empty beer cans have come through and slammed into the windshield a few times. The bee stings and beer cans will really wake your ass up, .

I know it's a bit strange/unsafe/silly...whatever, but I have on multiple occasions, used the sliding glass in my 2015 to pass through long pieced of wood trim that I had taped together, and then tied in the bed to keep them from moving too much lol.

 

Valid use.
Had a Pontiac Bonneville with a rear seat arm rest pass through. Could haul 12' molding in that car out of the weather.

I dislike the turn signal stock being an "all in one" design as well, but I have a power rear window in my Tacoma and I never use it. I do agree though, it should be power especially with some of the other options.

 

Back in the day before extended cab and crew cab models all you had to do was reach back and slide it. It was very useful before AC was common on trucks. Had it on my S10 and liked the feature. Pretty useless on my extended cab, only packaged by the manufacturer to add more MSRP.

 

I thought surly on the 2023 they would have at least had the option of either a slider or solid glass rear window if not a power option. On my bought new 2019 Colorado Z71 crew cab for me it’s useless. I have to get out and open the back door and reach in to either open or close it. Opened it one time since bought truck to be sure it worked.

Redesign. Plenty of people have already stated they dislike the headlight function being in the infotainment center. Expect a redesign eventually. Piano black console complaints, expect a redesign. These are the best places to have those things heard.

 

I have yet to either sit in a 3rd Gen, or even see one in person, but I have noticed a serious lack of interior storage spots. Coming from a 2nd Gen 2015 Canyon I've noticed in photo's & videos that, the space in the center console(under armrest) is definitely smaller with a cute little removable top tray, the door panels are even worse than the 2nd Gen' (there were a bunch of complaints about that back in the day), no sunglasses holder in the ceiling console. Being that there is no longer a headlight control switch to the left of the steering column(but optional trailer brake control gets countersunk in that area) just the convenience of a small compartment at this point would be a welcomed bonus. But at least there are now map pockets on the backs of both front seats, not just the passenger seat.

I work out of my truck, and it's a mobile office for me. My office is going to get slightly smaller and fully rearranged it would seem. This is of course if the truck ever shows up.

 

For those of you that are old enough to remember those floor mounted dimmer switches, did you ever see one fail? I worked in a “service station” when I was young and I never had to replace one. Being able to dim your headlights without taking a hand off of the wheel is a good thing, I think. Much better than on a stalk, on either side. That being said, I doubt they will ever return.

 

Oh heck yeah, I changed out dozens of floor dimmer switches...up here in Canada the salt and slush from your boots would rust them up solid, folks would pound their foot on them frantically to try and dim their lights when they would seize up. LOL

 

I have hit the signal stalk multiple different ways and haven't set off the wipers. Can you share how you're manipulating it to make that happen?

 

I am sure it is just the way I have become accustom to operating the turn signal because I do not take my hand off the steering wheel and use a finger to move the signal lever up or down to signal a turn. I do not excite the wipers when signaling a left turn but tend to hit the switch in the end of the lever when signaling a right turn. That causes a single swipe of the wipers without spraying washer fluid so it is not a big deal. It just annoys me. I am sure I will learn how to not do that in time.

 

Back when pickup campers were popular, the sliding rear window allowed an opening between the cab and the interior of the camper when it was installed. RV dealers even sold an inflatable ring that was placed between the cab and the camper to seal out the weather, allowing both windows to remain open continually.
Why an opening rear window is considered a desired feature on today's smaller pickups is a mystery to me. I am one of those annoyed by the partially blocked visibility. I also removed my rear headrests for the same reason.
One possible improvement would be to design the entire rear window to be lowered into the back wall of the cab. It's been done before as early as the '60's on Mercury sedans (i.e. Breezeway). Some current SUVs have liftgates or tailgates with power lowering windows too (Toyota 4Runner for one).

 

I currently have a 2022 Frontier 4x4 SV. It was supposed to have a sliding rear window but when it came in, it had a solid window. It took the dealer 2 months to get the window replaced with the slider, and I use it a lot. My Frontier, like my previous 2015 Canyon both had/have the short bed. There have been a few times where the window came in handy when running to Home Depot to pick up a 8 foot pieces of 2x4's or PVC piping. I really don't even notice the two bars when looking in the rearview mirror.

 

Why do people use their brights so often? I can see if you live out in rural areas where street lights are not prevalent, but where I live there are very few unlit roads, and I still encounter multiple people with their brights on in early morning rush hour traffic on major roads with plenty of street lights.

Add to the people with DRLs with no taillights and I just want to start ramming people off the road.

 

From pics I've seen, you have to press the button on the end of the stalk in twice to activate the washers and if you only press it once what does that do? Just the wipers?

What a stupid design. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what it looks like.

So press rapidly twice then hold the button in over bumpy roads to wash the massive amount of bugs I encounter every mile where I live. Ugh.

What possible reason is there for not having separate controls? This one is going to drive me crazy. My Ford Escape really nailed it with those controls and it's the same in the Maverick's too. I have a dial setup in the Tacoma but this single stalk thing is just dumb.

 

I just want to state that we are ok with the lighting controls being in the infotainment center. We initially set up the headlamps in auto and seldom need to turn on the fog lamps. We have not touched the infotainment center to control the lights since the initial setup. The lights come on when needed and go from dim to bright to dim with amazing accuracy.

 

Interesting setup. How do you turn on the wipers vs intermittent ?? The dial? Been a long time since I had a vehicle with wiper controls on the left.

My Silverado has the wipers on the turn signal stalk, but the controls are different. I have a button about an inch down the stalk to push to operate the washer pump. I twist the stalk in one direction to get one swipe of the wipers, the other direction gets steps thru the intermittent and slow/fast speed for the wipers.

Took me a while to get used to this over what my 2nd Gen Canyon had on the right side.

My wife's Nissan had the extra stalk on the right side, but Nissan is bass akward. Instead on pulling the stalk down to get one swipe, you pushed it up. To me, a totally backward method.

 

Every vehicle I've owned until now had everything on the directional stalk. I still think it's weird having a separate lever for the wipers... means I have to put down my cold snack to use it.
