I am hoping that air bag is for display only. You probably would not want to modify that . It is designed to "open" at a precise rate and anything on it could delay it or become a projectile.

 

Once you modify that airbag in any way, you have released the liability from GM and the airbag manufacturer and placed that burden on yourself. Not a good situation. Keep that in mind if you try to sell them.

 

All the provisions have been made so that the air bag deploys properly, my dad owns Caravaggio Corvettes and has been wrapping air bags for 20years. He did a wheel and horn pad for GM on one of the SEMA Corvettes, they gave instructions on what needed to be done for the bag to deploy properly. If you look at the 2020 Corvette GM wrapped the horn pad and as you see below one of the air bags we wrapped deployed without any hesitation.

 

Not heated...

 

This wheel is on my 2018 Colorado that does not have the heated option. I’m working on getting the heater element that GM uses to offer it for the truck that have that option

 

It looks like you already have a 3 post air bag. I put the 2019 Colorado heated wheel in my 2018 truck. It was a 2 post originally. They switched to the 3 post sometime in 2018. Your wheel is very nice looking. I work for GM in Global Vehicle Safety and when I saw that wrapped airbag I was concerned. After seeing so many crashes and damages from "aftermarket" changes, I was trying to make sure it was safe for you. I see that you and your dad know what you are doing. You guys do great looking wheels.

 

This is our new Sport steering wheel for the 2015-2020 Chevrolet Colorado.
