well as the title says...lets see how everyone mounts auxiliary switches in there truck.
Do you bolt/somehow restrain the actual sunglasses holder lid to prevent it from opening when pushing on a switch?Quick pic of my sPod mounted in the sunglasses holder. I did have to extend the control harness a bit due to the long routing to the engine bay (through the headliner, down the a-pillar, and through a hole I drilled where the clutch pedal would pass through the firewall).
Nope. The pressure needed for the switch is much less than the pressure needed to open the holder. Thankfully that's not needed. The wires behind the cover also provide some push back as the cover is slightly more difficult to open if you want to take a peek back there.Do you bolt/somehow restrain the actual sunglasses holder lid to prevent it from opening when pushing on a switch?
This is the route I went with for the lights on the roof. I will also be hooking up dual ditch lights (amber and clear)to this unit as well. The front lights are on standard switches.Wow, Y'all do some cool stuff. I decided I didn't want to tackle any wiring going through the firewall or cut up the interior so I went with a remote system from Blazer that controls up to 8 different accessories. the limitation is it is only On/off no momentary switches but it works for all the lights and accessories I have.

Those relay pigtails you're not using will pop out of the holder with a small pick or screwdriver, so you don't have to tape them. This is the route I went with for the lights on the roof. The Blazer will control the front roof light, left and right lights, rear lights and the dirch lights.
So far the Blazer works well but need to hook up some led indicator lights in the cab so I know what light is on.
Not done wiring the lights yet. The relays are for the lower watt blazer switches (1.5a/3.5a)
In my head, I saw this working out much better... but it almost went full soup sandwich on me.
I saved it.. it isn’t pretty (on the side you can’t see) but I think it’ll work.
I used some ABS plastic (I used two layers of 1/16 inch) to make a friction fit cover for the business card holder. I used acetone to “glue” two pieces of the ABS together. (It will make it melt and stick to itself.) The piece with “legs” to keep it in the cubby and the other was a flush fit cover.

DISREGARD THE MEASUREMENTS ON THE WHITE TEMPLATE. I remeasured and corrected them. The CORRECT measurements will be on the BROWN cardboard templates. (I don’t like using the metric system, but as small as this is, it’s easier.

Make sure the distance between the OUTSIDE of the legs (after bending them) to the outside of the other leg is 67mm. It fits MUCH better like that.
Because of the rounded corners the “legs” will have to be narrower than the center where the switch goes through. Recess the about 4mm from the INSIDE of the folds all the way out.
When I first test fit it, my cover piece was 32mm and centered on the legs, however it obstructed the traction control, hazards, and cargo light switches. To prevent this, I took about 1mm off of the top of the switch. No more hitting! Unfortunately, the rocker switch is as deep as the cubby is, so I’ll have to drill out the cubby bigger than I was wanting too, but I don’t use it anyways..

(Sorry Snapchat was the easiest way to diagram it.)
I like where it sits and how it fits. But this was a major PITA and not the quick little project I thought it would be. Luckily I only have about $30 in it.

It isn’t currently wired up. That’s a project for another day. This night shifter is going to bed... (about 4 hours late.)
Can you show me where you mounted the controller under the hood?I am quite happy with my Switch Pros. The price tag is high, but the quality is worth every penny. With the surface mount, only a little modification was needed to move the USB/aux plug slightly.

I just ordered a SwitchPros unit, they just came out with a blue backlit one instead of green. It's programmable, bluetooth for phone control, backlit with customizable labels, very easy and clean install.

I'm going to install over tiny pocket between heated seat switches.
