When I ordered my 2018 ZR2 this package wasn't available to me since I went with vinyl floor. I was wanting to order it and put it in. Has anyone installed this themselves?

I know if you ordered early it wasn't a option but you can get a dealer to install it.

It is a option now though.

I didn't install mine.

That would be correct, but then you have to pay to have it installed (unless you do it yourself) and then you most likely have to go back to the dealer and pay to have it activated through the BCM. If Im not mistaken it was like $750 as the option if you order it.

While it is indeed a cool looking feature, I recall someone having it 'factory installed' and, it isnt actually factory installed. It is installed at the dealership after the truck arrives. The one that was posted here, they did not do what I would consider a great job...... and the switch they used was like a $1.50 cheap ass POS.

At the end of the day, the lights that some of the vendors here have (like Diode Dynamics) are the same quality you will get from the factory ones, at like 1.4 the cost.

I got mine a few months ago and time just hasnt allowed me to install them yet, but after going over the instructions, it shouldnt take more than an hour of so.

If you arent mechanically inclined, believe me when I tell you that these forums could walk you through it quite easily....... plus Youtube. :wink2:

PS....doing it on your own, you will not be going back to the dealer for them to reprogram anything.

I have the DD footwell kit as well, and honestly, I wouldn't buy it again. Strip LEDs are harder to place in tight areas than bulb type LEDs, and the "universal" kit is designed to be switched, not wired to function with the dome lights as most OEM footwell lights are intended.

I do want to highlight that the issue isn't with the quality of the kit, just the design. They use waterproof LEDs, good solder, and heatshrink, with long pigtails (somewhat annoyingly they use bright white jacketed two conductor wire) for routing through complex spaces.

My opinion is the kit would be better sold as a toolbox or tonneau light kit, rather than footwell.

I did end up buying 8 DD HP3 bulbs and some 194 plug pigtails to use for my footwell lights, to tap into the dome light circuit.

I am a bit unclear as to exactly what this package is. Is it true ambient lighting that is always on? If so, is it just for the footwells or does it illuminate the cupholder area? I have a fit when driving to work in the morning before daylight and trying to find the cupholder with the insulated coffee travel mug.

My wife has a Honda Odyssey with s soft blue glow from the overhead console that is not distracting, but helps with locating stuff.

I have it. It’s in the cup holders in the center consul and front foot wells. Can be off, 9(I think) different colors or a slow fade between them all. Button is where others have stated. This was most certainly an option in 18 as well as 17. Not sure why a vinyl floor would affect it. Also has nothing to do with the BCM. It’s a separate circuit. Can be installed or removed anytime.

Thanks for the info, it sounds like something I would like and it is good to know it could be a DIY install. That said, I let the dealer install my fog lights since that did require BCM programming (or otherwise). ~$425 included the fog lights, the replacement light switch, installation and programming.
I cannot imagine why this kit costs a similar amount. I would go $200 or so, but four Benjamins is a little steep.

Most GM cars have a wire coming from the BCM module that is a variable ground. As the ground is slowly interrupted, the lights fade. I guess it's easier to do than fade the voltage. I've used it as a ground to make footwell lights dim with the dome lights in a previous vehicle. But I'm not even sure where the BCM is located on our trucks.

Anyone have any more info on this item? I cannot find the installation documentation or any other photos other than the small cropped photo on GM's website. They have others (like for the Malibu and Impala) shown in great detail.

Like I said, it takes better advertising to get customers to pay $400 bucks for a few LEDs and and circuitry.

I too would like more information about the factory led footwell cup holder led light....

1. Do they come on automatically with the headlights, or do you have to manually cut on and off with the switch that changes the color options?

2. Would be great if someone could post a pic of the install instructions?

400.00 for that is a bit much holy jeeze. I'll go this route if need be [ame]https://www.amazon.com/LEDGlow-Multi-Color-Interior-Underdash-Lighting/dp/B000I04Z7Q/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1519339944&sr=8-4&keywords=car+ambient+lighting[/ame]

I found the earlier version on ebay (GM#84138949 - $160) which didn't include instructions, but pardthemonster's instructions worked well for the install. I got them in yesterday, and they work well. That said, if I were to do it again, I would just put very low lumen LEDs in the cupholders and power them off of the nearby accessory outlet (which is where this kit gets its power).

Hard to believe this is a $700 option (installed).

Thanks to all for the good info and discussion.

I have the “factory” interior illumination package (dealer-installed) and repeatedly pressing the button changes the cup holder and foot well colors. They can also be completely shut off completely as part of the color rotation.

I just did this in my truck, looks nice. I purchased a package for a Kia on eBay for $35 , made some minor mods to get it to work. It came with 4 leds for the cup holder. Acsco makes the controller. Welcome to Advanced Lighting System
Just connect it to the power accessory.

Great Idea, looks very similar to the GM one (if not the same) and the price is right. What were the minor mods you needed to make this work? I would assume you needed to mod the accessory plug as well as remove a couple of the cup holder LED's, Or did you find another spot to put them?

Just bought my Colorado last month and I'm interested in the ambient lighting option. I just found this thread and I'm wondering if you can message me some images of the lighting in your truck. there is only one image I can find anywhere online and its the one from the dealer website that only shows the front floorboards. I'm curious how the cup holder get illuminated with the way its configured. Thank you!
