Even though these posts are 9 years old did anyone else cut that wire and then the engine would not crank? I took yalls advice started the engine cut the wire and cut the truck off then it wouldn't crank til I connected that cut wire back together
Ist post two months ago so thinking he kept the wire re-connected. My ? is...did he cut the correct wire? Back when I did this on my '06, it never failed again (Passlock) & always started. Just had the annoying red light.

I'm new here and just read this complete thread.
This site has a huge amount of information. Well done.
I'm in Canada and just bought a 2009 Colorado for a 6.0 transplant.
I read that the Canadian trucks have the passkey instead of the passlock system but my key seems to be a normal key as the passlock system uses.
Is it possible the passkey system is only on newer Canadian vehicles after 2009?

Looking at the 2009 schematic for passlock cutting the blue white wire stops the resistor from connecting to the bcm when the ket is turned.
Would it be possible to cut the wire and connect the identical resistor value to the bcm side at A14 with the other side of the resistor connected to the bcm 5volt source at pin A42 as the schematic shows?

Also if the immobilizer is triggered will the starter still crank the engine? Is it just the fuel that's turned off?

I think you are onto something with the resistor. I used to have a 2007 and I remember seeing the same thing. The system uses that resistance to show the ECM.
As for the white/blue wire on mine it worked to cut it but only when the truck was running.
I think if I still had one of these trucks I would get it programmed out of the ECM and get theft insurance. ;)

How to: Permanently disable the passlock II system.

I assume no responsibility if you harm your vehicle with this mod. ( follow the directions, this includes step one! )

Vehicle Information:

2006 Chevrolet Colorado, Z71, Crew Cab

Tool Needed:

1.Wire Cutters/scissors
2. Electrical Tape
3.Key to the truck

Cost: $0.25

Pre How to warning

This will disable the factory ignition security! I recommend getting an aftermarket security system to help protect your truck in case of an attempted theft.

What does this solve?

Any and all no start issue directly related to the passlock II system.

Step One: Start the truck, leaving it in park, and running during this process.

Step Two: Locate the plug pictured below, The plug is under the dash near the steering column. Open your driver door and stick your head on the floor near the gas and brake pedal and look up, it will be the big white plug staring you in the face. If you need anymore help let me know. You will notice that on the side closest to the front seats, the plug is pretty much split in two. We will be working with the right side of this plug. We are looking for the wire that is White with a BLUE stripe. It will be with other wires that are white/colored stripe.

Image

Step Thee: Cut this wire in half, and electrical tape both ends.

Image

Step four: Shut off the truck, You’re done!

Try restarting it, you will see the red security light on, but that can be removed with the LED mod how to.
How-to: Custom Gauge Lighting (LEDs) w/video

This can also be done using this Bypass (this is what is done on my 2007 Cobalt ss/sc for the remote start/alarm).

I followed instructions to disable passive alarm. Truck started fine next 3 times but not the 4th. So my guestion is what did I disable?

Wait ten minutes with the key in it and try again. If it starts cut that white/blue wire while it's running.

i want to cut the wire but am not 100% which wire is the one. The colors don’t seem exactly the same. Is it possible to count the wires in their position in the blue and white plug? (3rd from drivers side or 5th from passenger side?). Is it possible to really make sure I cut the right one?

did you see #302 in this very thread?
search around, there are pics out there that show exactly which wire.

The originalbpost of this thread is the best ive seen. Theres got to be a better way. (Please).
you still don't understand which wire to cut? You don't see that connector and wire under your dash? Or?
What are you driving?
Or a better way to fix it? A better way is to get a PCM with it programmed out. There are companies that can do it. Also, there are some shops that have a GM Tech2 scan tool that can do it (they say). The correct way is a new Ignition switch and a trip to the dealer to program it to your truck.

Driving an 09 Chevy Colorado. I see the blue and white plug and all the wires coming out of it. Whole lotta ways to get it wrong. Only one way to get it right. Did i mention my color blindness. :( Is it possible to count the wires from the passenger or driver side to make sure ill be cutting the correct wire?

yes, count them if you need to. Just cut in a good spot to get to it if need to repair it.
If by chance you cut the wrong one you can repair it. Not the end of the world. Just be sure to cut it when the truck in RUNNING

I can count them all day long…but if I don’t know which one is the correct wire to cut?
Maybe you could get someone with mechanical skills to help you since your color blind and unsure of which wire to cut. Or just pay to have a new ignition switch put in and relearn at dealership like I had done on my 2007 Canyon when it had the passlock problem.

I want to keep the truck, but it’s got almost 200K and I’d rather not throw money away if I didn’t have to. Wonder if the original poster of this thread is still listening in?

Or, is there a “do gooder” listening in that is knowledgeable enough to read a wiring diagram well enough to figure out which wire is the right one and count it out for me?
