Glove box damper string

So I guess it’s not a big deal as I rarely open the glove box but the string broke on the damper. Is there an easy fix? It looks like it just became unclamped?

Look for a thread on how to replace the vac filter. You have to remove the entire glove box to replace and someone may have posted pictures.

You remove the glovebox, not the brackets and such for it. The hook on the end of the string pops out of the glovebox, so instructions on replacing the cabin filter won't help the OP figure out how to replace that assembly since it's not touched.

They may be able to pry open where the string goes in, insert the string, and re-clamp it down but I haven't examined that piece up close to know.

I've had my glove box door off more than once, last time I left the cable off, it's a pita and does not effect a damn thing.

I just looked at mine, it's a simple loop with the crimp keeping the loop in place. Should be a super simple fix. Like this.

Not sure what the tension is on that rope but you could simply try making a new loop and tying back with electrical tape if you can't find a metal crimp. A dab of hot glue or other adhesive on it before taping would give it additional strength. Worth a try.

Edit: Since I have an inquisitive mind due to my profession and am really, really bored this afternoon I unhooked the cable and measured 30 ounces of tension. Now I can sleep well tonight...lol

OK thanks. Was any reason given? It certainly has a function. If the glove box door hits my wife one more time in the knee, she will rip it right off the plastic hinges. The local dealership did not say this. They said there was no part number for it.which is not true. GM (23238786). Love the truck, but what else is missing. Thanks.Murph

My 2019 Colorado as all did has it but after putting some stuff in glove box I noticed it wasn't dropping easy any more so thought string broke or something. Took everything out of glove box and opened it and it went down slowly again. So really that damper doesn't do a hell of a lot of anything unless your glove box is empty or just some very light stuff in it or it will open just like there is no damper.

My 2019 ZR2 doesn't have it either. It has everything except the NAV upgrade to the Bose system. If you want to add one, the part number appears to be: 23238786

damper attaches to Instrument panel 84443630 (2015-2020).
If you are past 2020, (GM84671686 ) you may not have the same provisions to mount the damper.
Im looking to find a rear view of 84443630 to see how that damper is attached.
Everybody is right, that dash is one piece, left to right

a PITA to remove.

There is a big hole where the airbag sits. I would go in through there. But touching an airbag is sketchy, possibly warranty voiding
Can't see where is worthwhile to go through all that b.s. when as I stated in an earlier post if you put stuff in the glovebox it will still drop just like if you didn't have the damper.

The thing that boggles my mind, I know it doesn't take much,
there is no glove box light.
