One of my concerns it that it appears the seat back of the manual passenger seat doesn't tilt. That's such a basic function that even the cheapest cars have it.
I can't believe there is no manual backrest adjustment on the passenger side, even on the upper tier models??? This is hard for me to fathom and could be a deal breaker for me on my Z71. Can someone verify this from the auto shows please???

What benefit does the diesel offer now over the 2.7L Turbo?

That seems highly unlikely, for any tier.

From the fleet order guide, "Seat adjuster, front passenger 4-way manual " is standard on all Colorado and Canyon Elevation and AT4 models. This typically means base fore and aft, and backrest angle, fore and aft.

Thank you for the facts!

This is off the GM Family First build site for a Canyon AT4. Pull down the standard features at the bottom of the price and this is what it says:

  • 8-way power driver seat adjuster
    • Easy-to-reach controls offer 8 ways to customize comfort
  • 4-way manual front passenger seat
    • Seat position forward and back
    • Seat position up and down
Changing the backrest angle makes more sense than moving the seat up and down, but that's not what it says. I'll second the request for someone at an auto show to check it out.

On the same GM Family First site, configure a GMC Elevation so that it will have the manual passenger seat. Then look at the picture of the interior that shows the side view. I believe the handle shown is the backrest angle control.
From the GM Fleet Order guide, the manual driver seat is a six way. This is the one that will have the manual height adjustment in addition to fore and aft, as well as back angle.
The owners manual shows them both, beginning on page 26.

Sorry, I made it to the next page for this picture:

But if it is both up and down and tilt, why do they say 4-way and not 6-way? I'm still confused.

GM's nomenclature for their seat adjusters seems designed to sound as if they have more degrees of freedom than they actually do. For instance, the fore and aft adjustment is counted as two directions, so they call it two of the four ways the seat can be adjusted. The four way passenger seat is fore and aft as well as backrest angle forward and reclined.
The six way power passenger seat is fore and aft, up and down, as well as backrest angle. Additionally, it has power lumbar support.
The eight way power driver seat has the ability to raise and lower the base at the front and rear independently, so they count another two 'ways' the seat can be adjusted.
I've spent over thirty years as a GM Engineer, mostly in Powertrain work, and was never involved directly in interior design (thank God), but can tell you that GM would never release a GMC truck without a reclining passenger seat. They've done plenty of stupid things, but they're not that stupid.

I sat in the ZR2, and the driver seat has a forward-back, adjusting the seat's angle, height, and lumber. Passengers are not so lucky with manual forward-back and seat angle adjustments. The wife was not too happy with the passenger seat arrangement.

I just find the headlights and grille to be hideous. The rest of the truck is really nice. The interior especially. The front end is a different story. If there wasn't a GMC logo on it, I would've thought it was a Toyota. Same for the Colorado. Nothing wrong with Toyota's looks but it aint for me.

I know the new Canyon is controversial in design. I personally love it but I've seen a bunch of people say they think it's ugly. My question is: Why?

I'm curious what it is that people don't like. I'm strongly considering the AT4X and I will admit that GMC has one of the ugliest logos in the business. It's way too huge and prominent on the grill as well as the tailgate. I wish they took cues from the Ranger and stamped "Canyon" in the tailgate and went with a smaller "GMC".

As for the AT4X interior, I thought white was a bad idea at first but it's really grown on me. Especially with those red accents!
Why? Some just have a different view in what looks good than you, simple as that. Paco thinks chrome trim around the doors and his name in the window in a glitter finish looks good and others think black wheels look good, people have different tastes.

Counter question, let us know what trails you will be going on that necessitates a locker need in your purchase when shopping the AT4x and ZR2; as most of these will be purchased by the suburban mall crowd trying to fluff their image. Care to justify that?

Don't buy based on looks, it is a truck, it is a tool. Make sure it has the features you need and want at the right price. Looks are way down on my list of reasoning.

Honestly, I thought it would make interesting conversation and I was right. I've enjoyed reading what people like and don't like about it. It also gives me an appreciation for the details in design when people notice things I missed.
