Clean Throttle Body, High RPM in Gear at Idle

I have an '06 automatic 3.5L I5 and just cleaned the throttle body. Now at start-up, the rpm's jump to almost 2K and then drops to 1100. When placed into drive or reverse, the rpm's don't drop but stay at 1k. While driving and coming to a stop, the rmp's will stay at 1100 until I slam the brake to stop. Any ideas or fixes? Just really confused.

How did you clean the throttle body? Did you manually operate the throttle plate while it was off? As I recall in these engines they're electronically operated, so if you want to open it up to clean it you need to turn the key partway and have someone step on the gas peddle to open it. Also, sure you got any vacuum lines hooked back on correctly? I think there's only the one, at the front, and also the one going from the top of the engine into the air box.

Did you disconnect the negative battery cable while cleaning?? If not you should have. Try disconnecting it and leave it for a couple of hours. Then reconnect and start it up and give the computer a chance to relearn.

If vacuum lines were the problem then your check engine light would be on.

I agree with Greg. The first thing that crossed my mind was you did not reconnect the vacuum line to the resonator box. Second guess is the TB is not positioned properly on the intake allowing air to creep by causing an intake leak making it idle high.

If those are found to be alright, then the computer must relearn.

I've manually opened the butterfly a few times with no problem. Did you clean the TB with a course material that scratched the surface? Throttle Body specific cleaner and a rag is all that is necessary in most cases.

And remember, whenever work is performed and something is right after said work is completed, it's usually because something didn't get assembled properly.

Thanks again. I checked all of the hoses on both the intake and the vacuum hose coming off of the resonator box. All were tight. The TB was also tight. I disconnected the battery for about 2 hours and then started it back up. Everything is back to normal with no codes showing. Thanks.
