So these padlocks, hitch locks and trailer locks use the factory key, anybody use these and care to comment on them? Also they don't list the 2018 Colorado or Canyon on their site as compatible, anyone know if the '15-'17 with fit on the '18?

Neat concept, but that's for keys with external cuts. Our keys aren't like that. Do they make a unit that fits our type of key cut?

EDIT: Well, duh - just followed your link and it does show them available for center cut keys. Might have to call or email them to find out if the 17 will work for the 18, my money is on yes. If they do, then my only concern would be the weather proofing and/or material used to make the lock. Michigan winters are tough on any lock that gets exposed to the road salt bath that runs from November to April.

I used those on the Leer topper I bought for my government work truck at the time. The topper had 3 exterior locks and it was worth it to me not have a extra key to worry about. In the three years I used that truck I the locks functioned normally with no issues. I was up in North Michigan and the salt or de-iceing crap they put on the roads didn't seem to affect it any. No I was authorized to wash the truck once a week, so that may have helped some.

Hope my 2 cents helped.

I used them for years on my 15 2500 and utility trailer and I just got an 18 Colorado this week and I have one if their locks holding my hitch on. Never had any issues before. South Texas probably isn’t as tough on things as up north in winter but I am right on the coast and things do rust.

I use one on my 2018 for my trailer hitch lock.

I am satisfied with it. Works as advertised.

Yep, on my second set. Only bad thing is they can't be re-keyed if you get a different truck. However, they do have a nice offer for a replacement purchase in that situation.

I love the idea of not having to have more keys on the ring... Sometimes I feel like a jailer or a maintenance guy

But it's more important to me to be able to leave the truck running (or at least leave the key in the ignition) and access the hitch lock at the same time....

Plus I have 5 hitch locks all keyed alike for multiple vehicles and hitches set-ups....

Not criticizing, just don't work for me

For that reason... I'm out

Other than the investment, I'd see it as ideal for you. You could carry a spare key in your wallet for use when you wanted to keep the truck running, plus if you ever were locked out accidentally, you'd have a key to get in. Now if they'd just make a gas cap too...

I tried these in early 2015 check out my link here so you don't go down that hole. https://www.coloradofans.com/forums...gen-accessories-aftermarket-products/221257-bolt-lock-2015-canyon-colorado.html

It turns out that our keys are too short to work with the Bolt locks. They claim to have made the proper change but I'm still hesitant to try one again.
Here is my correspondence email: (sorry it's out of date order, start at the bottom)
Jeremy,
Our engineers had some more time to dig into the problem this afternoon and your first thought that the key was too short to work with the padlocks was correct. The blade of the key is unfortunately too short to reach all the way to the back of the padlock to successfully code the lock cylinder. We are still looking to see if this problem also exists with the rest of the line of locks or not.

What I can do for you is a couple of things. The first option, I can send the lock back to you that you just sent in and then you can return it to Pep Boys for a refund. The second option is that if you still have the receipt if you could just e-mail me a copy of the receipt I will get a check written for you for the cost of the lock.

Please let me know what you would like to do and I'm sorry that we couldn't get the locks to work with your key.

Regards,
Jason

Jason, I took the bottom red part off the lock to see if maybe the key wasn’t going in far enough and no such luck (I put it back together). The lock will be in the mail shortly.

Thanks, Jeremy

Jeremy,
I just talked to our engineers and we aren't sure exactly what is causing your problem with the locks, I even coded a lock with a similar key just now and didn't have any problems. I think the best thing for us to do would be to get that lock sent back to us and we can send you out a replacement lock from our stock. Once we have the lock back the engineers can dig into it and find out what is exactly stopping the lock from working.

What is your shipping address and I will get a lock out to you ASAP. You can send the padlock you have back to me at:

Jason, The little red tab was in place on both locks. I returned the first one thinking someone messed with it in the store. The second lock doesn’t work either. Please see attachment (picture of my key). Thanks, Jeremy

Good Morning Mr,
I'm sorry for the problems you are having with your BOLT Padlock. I am not aware of any problems at this time regarding coding of the a GM Center Cut Padlock with a Colorado key. The coding process is as easy as it shows in the videos so there should be no reason to put the lock in a vise just to code it.

A couple of questions so I can take some information to our engineers so they can help figure out what the problem is, unfortunately your 2013 Silverado key will not work in that particular padlock. First, was the rubber seal over the key hole still in place when you opened the packaging? Second, would be able to send me a picture of your key blade?

In the meantime I'm going to talk to our engineers to make sure there isn't any known problems with the Colorado keys and our center cut locks.

Thank you,
Jason

Hi, my name is Jeremy and I am I having some issues with one of your locks. I purchased a 7023537AA lock from Pep Boys and I am having a hard time making it work. I purchased one on 2-10-15 and returned it for a new one after not getting it to work. I have a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado with a center cut GM key which measures 1-15/16" long with the cut part extending about 1inch from the end. The videos I've watched on Youtube and your site make it look very easy to turn the key clockwise 1 turn the first time but my key will not turn. I have even tried locking the shackle in a vise to hold the lock and then turn the key but I do not want to bend or break my key off in the lock. I'm going to keep this lock and try a different key, maybe one of our work truck keys (2013 Silverado has a longer shank) will fit. Is there a problem with these keys or are they not long enough to work in this lock.
Thanks, Jeremy
