Has anyone tried the volant cai part #15537 I found it on mvpauto for $200 it comes with a new box, reuseable filter and tube just wondering if it works and is worth the bother. Mvpautoparts.com/volant-15537-

To each thier own...Not worth it...IMO Good luck with your mod !!

Clone, the stock airbox is awful. Any aftermarket intake will provide much more smooth flow into the throttle body and CAI's like this try to take air from as low as possible as colder air is more dense and the more dense the air, the more power you'll get out of the engine.

I agree. Other so called CAI's like k&n draw air from the engine compartment. Yes the heat shield helps but the air is still pretty warm. I'm not putting down k&n. They make a good free flowing system but I would rather draw colder air from outside the engine compartment. The Volant is a true COLD air intake system in my opinion. Also the volant box and intake tube are far less restrictive than stock. Also I prefer to use an airbox because I off road in dusty conditions a lot and wet/oil type filters like k&n tend to get dirty real fast without the box

I have one its worth. U will notice it alot more with a tune and exhaust.

does anyone know what kind of power the volant adds? i'm having second thoughts about the k&n learning that it draws air from the engine compartment. i know the k&n adds 18 at 6000rpm but i can't find anything out about the volant

i had the K&N Cold Air Intake and it was good sounding and made a difference, the biggest gain between the Volant and the K&N is the resonator box delete. K&N uses the factory box which sucks but volant removes it...you will notice more power, noise, and mpg i picked up 1mpg give or take with volant over K&N same driving same fuel nothing different...i used my K&N Cone Filter instead of the paper crapy looking one volant gives you...i am very happy with mine keeps filter cleaner and still has the power

ok i finally found out the hp/tq increase that the volant gives you. i forget the site i found it on but it said that they can boost an extra 18hp and an extra 40 ft-lbs of tq. i dont know how truthful that is but i'd say its close.

yes its for the I5. and u obviously don't know how i drive. i hit redline quite often.

Just thought I'd point out that the K&N cold air intake does NOT use the factory resonator box... don't know why anyone would say that but they are completely wrong..

And just my 2 cents but the Volant seems a lot bulkier and as far as I'm concerned more hoses / tubes and distance between the filter / intake opening to the throttle bottle the less effective the intake..

actually volant keeps theirs and the airbox as well from what i can see. its just the airbox has hoses coming from the bottom side to draw in cold air from the fenders like stated before. k&n uses only a heat shield to protect it from the engine but that doesn't mean it keeps out all the warm air.

So I find myself leaning towards the Volant CAI, but their website shows two different listings - one WITH and one WITHOUT a Smog Pump (WTF is a smog pump??). I'm assuming that'd be something that only certain states would have, such as California and our retarded emissions laws. How do I know which one I have/need?

Thanks for helping the new kid, here..... lol

the smog pump pumps fresh oxygen into the exhaust port causing the hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide to continue to burn and deplete better.

THAT...... i have no idea. i just know what it is. it will probly add a few extra horses but not much. maybe 3 or 4. not sure on the either

I know this thread is old, but I'll add my input for someone else's future reference.

I had the Volant on my '06 2.8L since I got it in '06 and took it off recently, as the smog place wouldn't pass me because I'm lacking the CARB sticker.

1. I immediately went from 22-23mpg to 18mpg.
2. The kick-in-the-pants feeling when punching WOT was gone.
3. The engine noise at WOT which, frankly, always embarrassed me when people were with me, was gone. Cab noise is MUCH quieter now.

My pcm is still tuned, I still have the 3.5 TB upgrade, K&N filter, and a Dynamax Super Turbo exhaust. I'll probably change the exhaust, as some baffles must've rusted and come loose inside of it, as it rattles something fierce. I'll probably go with a Magnaflow next. I'll probably also get the pcm re-tuned, as I don't think I'll put the Volant back on. Yes, I will sorely miss the mpg, but my overall requirements for the truck have changed.
