Back in the summer of 1980, I drove a GMC Crew Cab long bed in the oil fields. At that time, CC pickups were a rarity, but most often seen in that type of work environment. Standard transmission, I believe it had a 2-speed differential, but I may be remembering a different truck from that era. It literally took a cow pasture to turn it around.

No AC, summer of 1980 is the gold standard for heat waves that all other summers in North Texas are compared to.

When I purchased my Silverado CCSB, my son-in-law purchased a double-cab, regular bed. Pretty much the same specs, I got more room in the cab, he got more bed length, overall length the same. For my purposes, the short bed works. Because of the greater width, my cargo volume is substantially greater than on my 2nd Gen Canyon, fits 3 totes side by side in the bed, as compared to just 2 totes with some space on my Canyon. Bed length is a few inches longer on the Silverado: Canyon bed length about 62 inches, Silverado bed length almost 70 inches. Of course, the overall result is a truck that is over a foot and a half longer, too long for my garage. A CCLB Colorado/Canyon would fit in my garage, just barely.

I remember my debate moving from my 1st gen to 2nd gen, by memory the size increased 6" in both length and width, being downtown often, size matters, but the bed was slightly longer.
My shop had a fleet of chevies, mostly regular cab with a 7-8' with a cap.. they wanted me to use their truck for a job delivery. Truck was fully loaded, but once I sat in it, I realized it was way too beat up for me. I backed up my truck, loaded it up with the same material and went off. They were shocked my mid sized swallowed the material with ease. ( I did not have a cap so was able to pile it higher than their POS of a truck )

As the topic states, is there Any rumor about a 6 foot bed?

My 2nd Gen is coming up in age, although only 65K, and I was considering buying a new truck.
However, the 5 foot bed is a non-starter for me.

I would hate to give up on Colorados about almost 20 years of having them but, my hobby requires at least a 5 foot plus 8 inch bed. The 2nd Gen fit the bill perfectly but my only other recourse would be either a Silverado or....... another brand !!! Noooooooooooooooo

So, does anyone have any sort of rumor, or concrete evidence that they may come out with a 6 foot bed?
Glad I got my 2015 Canyon with a Crew Cab and 6.5 foot bed. Will keep this as long as i can

I have a 2018 Extended 6+ feet foot bed. No way would I buy a 2024 Colorado with the 5+ foot bed! I put stuff in the back of my Colorado weekly and my 6+ foot bed barely fits my Lowe’s or Home Depot order. I’d have to make two trips if I went to a 5+ bed! I picked up a twin mattress the other day and my 6+ foot bed fit perfectly when I shut the tailgate. I even drove to Chattanooga and picked up furniture and had 1/2” to spare. A 5+ bed is useless for my needs. I’m a buyer of a new colorado when they go back to offering a 6+ bed!

As much as I hope its not true, my gut feeling is a 6' bed will disappear in all brands of mid size pick-ups, if you want to use a truck as a truck, it will be in a full sized variant.
