What sucks is that GM doesn't care. They want to 'band-aid' it and hope it works for a while. In the meantime, I'm driving something that could strand me and my family because they are guessing. I'll probably be lawyering up on this as I'm tired of their excuses.
There is so many things going on with being computerized it is more and more eliminating what it is not
So it becomes a very cold process
Which does make things seem like lack of caring

GM Resolution called me a bit ago. I filed a BBB complaint and the lady was following up with it. She called me earlier and left me a voicemail (I was busy), and when I called back, she told me my case worker would call. About 5 minutes later, my case worker called and during the time she left me VM until she called me the 2nd time, she was reading the BBB complaint and all the repair orders. She went ahead and submitted it for a buy back. While on the phone, she said 'wait...I just got a notification that the buy back was approved' and told me the 2 options. I should get a settlement letter from BBB and go from there. I don't know what all this really entails, but they did speak to the dealership, and are trying to make this right.

I'll update as soon as I hear anything. FINALLY someone at GM listened.
That is progress
Hopefully whatever 2 options they offer at least will work out for you

I love the looks of this truck; the Z71 front end/headlights are just awesome. It is a very comfy truck in my opinion, and powerful for a 4-banger. The reliability, though, is a whole difference beast. I'm afraid if I sell it privately, someone will be interested, and 'try' to go for a test drive and find out it is dead. GM needs to come through and resolve this instead of excuses. Looks bad on them, although they really could care less.
Three strikes should qualify it as a lemon. Check your states lemon laws. I'd be pissed and that truck would be gone

Have you made sure ALL fuses in ALL fuse boxes are fully seated? I've read about that being an issue.
Also check the auto start and stop battery if you have that feature. My daughter's Chrysler minivan had that battery go dead and it was draining the main battery. Some days it would start, some days it wouldn't. I disconnected the auto start battery and she's had no further issues since

2024 Colorado Z71 bought new in June 2024. I had past issues with the blank screens (both), engine light coming on within a month of purchase, turn signal, front camera for adaptive cruise, etc.

Was towed to dealer on 10/21/2024 for it being totally dead. They switched out the battery. On July 5, 2025, truck was dead again. Towed to dealer. They suspected something was draining the battery. They replaced the ABS module, but couldn't program it since it also needed a new wheel sensor, which was out of stock EVERYWHERE. Didn't get the truck back until Aug 28, 2025. Yesterday AM, when to start my truck to go to work, and it clicked then nothing. Had it towed AGAIN back to dealer. Luckily all 3 times were in my driveway. I had an open case for the 2nd tow, which is still open.

I have NOT installed any 3rd-party equipment on this truck (I'm not that technical when it comes to that stuff) so it is all stock.

I am beyond frustrated with this POS! I cannot trust going anywhere with this, let alone taking my family. Anyone have similar issues? GM doesn't care, and all I get is 'We are sorry. We understand your frustration, blah blah blah'. No action, only excuses. Love making payments on something that is in the shop all the time. I have never had to take my wifes' 2015 Nissan Rogue in for issues, just regular servicing (oil, tire rotation, etc).

Anyone have thoughts on this situation. I am so beyond frustrated and crickets from both dealer and GM.

Thanks,
Rob
Yes,
My battery went totally dead three times. The battery was replaced after the first time, then it happened two more times. The first itme I had chevy roadside come to my home where they jump started it. The two other times I jumped it myself. After the battery goes dead I lost my brakes. The truck will only go around 40 miles an hour until it resets itself. My dealer didn't even know what was wrong. After rerading about this issue on this and other forums, I think it is an software update issue. Maybe mention this to the dealer. Also taking it back in for the forward collision detection system for the third time. Another very annoying thing is the shitty rear leaf springs thet creak and groan.
This is only my second new vehicle in my life ( I am 62 ) . Makes me want to cry.
You would think that the dealership would have some competent techs, but it is obvious they do not.
I love the looks, but chome don't get you home!

It sounds like you are having the same issues I did with my 2015 Z71 Colorado. I went back and forth between the dealer and the auto shop that I trust going to. They ended up changing a brand new battery out three times in a row. No one can find the problem anywhere. So I decided to traded out for a 2024 Chevy Colorado Z71 with a Blue Glacier color and I bought mine and June or July of 2024. I love this truck and I'm hoping to have it for a long time. Some guy bought my 2015 Colorado and said that he has had no issues with it whatsoever and he had had it for like 6 months already. So I don't get it either. I agree with some of the other comments that you should try to trade it in. Too bad they just can't give you another one of the same year and call it even.
Yikes! Glad your 2024 is running great. I love my blue Z71. GM is starting the paperwork on buying it back or 'trade' (whatever that means)...just waiting on the next step from them.

I'm 99% sure that the Colorado/Canyons don't have that secondary battery. Seems like that was a Mopar thing (i.e. stupid).

Now, now - don’t be throwing shade on MOPARs 😂😇- I have several over the years and they’re rock solid machines.

3rd time for the same unresolved issue? I think its time to "lemon law" that particular vehicle, get your money back, and any extra money you can get for the loss of use and inconvenience, then if you really love the Colorado purchace a new one hopefully without these problems or else try another brand.
Absolutely agree, once in awhile a vehicle comes off the line completely fk'd. Had one before, traded it in for a 100K Chevrolet truck and never looked back. Ever.

:ROFLMAO:Me too, I came home from the hospital when I was born in a Dodge Dart, we owned others as a kid, and I owned a '68 440 R/T Charger, '69 383 Charger, '73 440 New Yorker, and....a '96 Grand Caravan. But, c'mon, you know they do some weird stuff sometime. Like on the 383/440 heads, drilling/tapping the header bolt holes all the way into the water jacket... THAT pissed me off when I had to remove the Hooker headers to replace the typical gigantic Mopar big block starter (PITA)....aaaand the coolant spewed all over the ground so I had to drain it and then move the car so I wasn't working in a puddle of coolant.

There's no fuse for that button alone. It's integrated in the electronic shifting system. All software/computer related and unfortunately a lot of the Colorado/Canyons are software glitchy.
Maybe not but it's working now.

@BlueZedR2. Mopars may not always be the most sophisticated but they are beast when built right. On My 67 Barracuda with the small block you had to wrap the headers around the starter - which cooked them once a year and then disassemble the whole thing to replace it - that’s why I dumped the small block and put in a 440 - way more fun!

Here are some pix of my Mopar toys… funny thing is my “not street legal” Cuda dials in at 600 HP while my street legal Challenger is nearly 800. So there is some magic to modern tech 😇

The flying cheesegrater! Nice! Well, that's the power of forced induction for you. Cool that they sell 'Cuda grills and gills for the Challengers. I remember seeing some modern Camaros done up as '68 Firebirds, and really liked them.

Getting that giant starter changed out on my 383 Charger was an absolute nightmare. By the time I got it all put back together and fresh coolant back in it was pretty much an all day job. My buddy built the 383, and it was running probably 425-450hp. It was straight and rust free (CA desert car) but needed a lot of work (tranny, rear diff, paint, interior), but I still loved that car. Eventually put a reverse manual valvebody 727 race tranny and 8" posi in it (LOVED them) but had to sell it right after that because I had to place to park or store it. wish I hadn't....ah well.

It was stoopid. We had 3 JL/JLU Wranglers in the family. They all had the secondary battery, mounted under the main battery.

Yeah, that makes zero sense to me. Just use one battery big enough to do the job and be done with it. Batteries set up in parallel always seem to kind of fight each other (shortening their lifespan), and it's more electrical crap to go wrong. I hope they stopped that. Unless....that was their sneaky way of telling you that all you had to do was remove that battery to kill the ASS feature....hmmm...

had same problem with 2023 z71 at 10k miles. was told the remote updates were causing the battery to drain. didnt have car from September to February. I was relentless with GM. Don't bother trying to sue them since they have many ongoing cases. Thankfully my dealer stood up for me and got GM to take back the truck and put me in a new one which the new one's dash kept going black. I traded in for a 2024 Boss with alot less electronics and turned off the automatic updates and only have updated when i bring for service. this truck has been great!.. BE RELENTLESS WITH GM AND YOUR DEALER! GOOD LUCK!

I had a similar problem when i bought a 2024 Nissan frontier Pro 2-wheel drive. Left me stranded five times and towed three times. The dealer said I was manipulating the computer and raised her voice at my wife. I promptly traded it in at a GMC dealer for a canyon, on day 29. It had 330 miles on it. It went to auction and over a year now and i still get messages on my phone about the same data link errors it had then. Also tells me when being towed, six times now since I dumped it.

What I did to my daughter's Chrysler minivan was to disconnect the positive lead of the ass battery tape it off, and secure it away from the terminal. She's had zero issues since. The forums were also telling me to check fuses, something on the power sliding doors, and a bunch of other stuff that I don't remember. The auto start battery is an extra battery that runs around 400.00. It can stay dead for all I care. It's a totally unnecessary, useless feature that does nothing more than add additional costs the the sale or repair of the vehicle. MCSA. make cars simple again.
