2024 Colorado Z71 bought new in June 2024. I had past issues with the blank screens (both), engine light coming on within a month of purchase, turn signal, front camera for adaptive cruise, etc.

Was towed to dealer on 10/21/2024 for it being totally dead. They switched out the battery. On July 5, 2025, truck was dead again. Towed to dealer. They suspected something was draining the battery. They replaced the ABS module, but couldn't program it since it also needed a new wheel sensor, which was out of stock EVERYWHERE. Didn't get the truck back until Aug 28, 2025. Yesterday AM, when to start my truck to go to work, and it clicked then nothing. Had it towed AGAIN back to dealer. Luckily all 3 times were in my driveway. I had an open case for the 2nd tow, which is still open.

I have NOT installed any 3rd-party equipment on this truck (I'm not that technical when it comes to that stuff) so it is all stock.

I am beyond frustrated with this POS! I cannot trust going anywhere with this, let alone taking my family. Anyone have similar issues? GM doesn't care, and all I get is 'We are sorry. We understand your frustration, blah blah blah'. No action, only excuses. Love making payments on something that is in the shop all the time. I have never had to take my wifes' 2015 Nissan Rogue in for issues, just regular servicing (oil, tire rotation, etc).

Anyone have thoughts on this situation. I am so beyond frustrated and crickets from both dealer and GM.

Thanks,
Rob
Does the "lemon" law apply? Tell them you want a new one, and they can keep that one

Sorry to hear about your 2024 Colorado Z71 issues! I would have lost my mind too. Not to rub salt in your wound, but I have a 2024 Colorado ZR2 and couldn't be happier! Have not had any issues to speak of and I'm grateful. Hope everything works out for you and maybe your State has a lemon law that you can deploy!🙏

GM is buying it back. I got a call today. Just waiting for the next step.

I had the same problem with my ’23 AT4 Canyon. After numerous trips to the dealership, they finally fixed it by updating the infotainment system (USB update to accept the new file). They also found a tracking device that the dealership installed when I bought it. It was also causing a parasitic load close to the battery limit. No more problems…

Tracking device? Did you know about that when you bought it?

I sold my 2024 GMC Canyon at4 after 9 months and 7000 miles at a $14,000 loss. It had none of the problems your truck is having. I'm sorry to hear about your issues. It drove and rode like a three-quarter ton truck. I didn't like the oil and transmission fluid running around 212 Degrees when cruising down a freeway. Plus it would not get better than 23 mpg hwy. My 2015 Colorado Crew Cab Lt V6 4x4, got 27 to 28 hwy mpg and at 145,000 it's still getting 26+. So I'm still driving the old one. I'm thinking of trying the Nissan Frontier again.

Was it a bad update? There was a major update last year July 2024 I went for my first year inspection since it was free at the dealership They said there’s major updates that will take 2.5hrs to install. I sat there for more than four hours . They said there’s major updates was an error mid way through the first attempt and had to install again. Then I got a phone call within a week of the updates being installed that the updates they installed were found to be corrupted. I had to go back and sit for 2.5 more hours for the “safe” updates to be installed.

I did NOT. I have a credit score of 800+.
They said that it is an OTA update problem that tries to update but fails and continues until the battery is dead.

For 2023 Models

  • Service Update N232411313:
GM issued this service update to fix problems where the battery drained after an OTA update was installed.
  • What to do:
Take your vehicle to a certified GM technician to have them inspect it and reprogram the Engine Control Module (ECM) and Serial Data Gateway Module as needed.
For 2024 Models
  • Service Bulletin PIT6232:
This bulletin addresses issues like a complete battery drain after a failed OTA update or the radio staying on for an extended period after the vehicle is turned off.

No idea. If it was, it took down my truck 3 separate times

I had similar experience was there for 4 hrs also due to a failure midway.

Charging TIP:
If your battery is dead and won’t start your truck, you can jump start it with another battery or portable jump starter.
Connect to dead battery and do not start it until you have heard all of the relays reset (about 5-7 seconds). Once they have reset the dash display will indicate that you are ready to start.
Trying to start your truck before the reset can cause all kinds of issues like; loss of power steering and brakes, CEL, limited speed of 42 mph…

No. I don't mess with anything in that truck especially with all these issues. That is for the service dept to figure out. I don't want them to think that I was the cause of the issues. It could very well be an issue but if it was, they should have the expertise to check those.
Sorry to hear about your experience and frustrations with your truck.

Your fatal flaw is total reliance on mechanics who may or may not know of an issue nor have exceptional troubleshooting skills. It's one thing for us on these forums to figure stuff out and share....but sharing info with dealerships is also important. I came across the unseated (but all functional) fuses on my own before seeing it here. I also know my local dealership is not previously aware of the windshield cowel issue nor left turn cancel blinking....which we are aware of here. Those are my two only issues for warranty work. Still loving my truck.

My advise though for you, follow the process outlined in the warranty information regarding lemon laws and written notice to them about the issues and intent to take action. It gives them first opportunity to "buy back" the vehicle before any arbitration/litigation processes. Otherwise, you actually lose some rights for equitable solution.

Best of luck with your solution path.

GM called me today regarding it back. Since I went through BBB, BBB will send me a settlement letter. GM lady (very helpful) told me that I don't have to accept the first round if I feel its unfair. Ill wait to see what response they give me.

It sounds like you are having the same issues I did with my 2015 Z71 Colorado. I went back and forth between the dealer and the auto shop that I trust going to. They ended up changing a brand new battery out three times in a row. No one can find the problem anywhere. So I decided to traded out for a 2024 Chevy Colorado Z71 with a Blue Glacier color and I bought mine and June or July of 2024. I love this truck and I'm hoping to have it for a long time. Some guy bought my 2015 Colorado and said that he has had no issues with it whatsoever and he had had it for like 6 months already. So I don't get it either. I agree with some of the other comments that you should try to trade it in. Too bad they just can't give you another one of the same year and call it even.

Lemon law?

I also had opened a case with GM but at the end it was denied. They said that there was a fix coming and that I needed to take it back to the dealer. I tried amother dealer with the same results until I found a different dealer (luckily I have 3 within a 1/2 hr) that new what they were doing.
No problems since and I really like the truck; AT4 Canyon Volcanic Red. Average 19.6 mpg with best trip mileage at 32.8 mpg!
