Hey, after the release of the new changes for 2008, and the mention of the upcoming 2008 1/2 V8 option, has anybody else heard any other updates as to when the V8 will be available to order, also for the new 2008 Colorado's there is the new color Black Grantie Metallic, now this will be an extra cost color, but they will still be keeping the plain black into play. Has anybody ever seen this color on a nice clean vehicle before, because it does sound pretty darn hot if you ask me :D and I would like to see some pictures, or an actual vehicle if possible before I order. Also any other updates I'd like to know about guys thanks! I've been looking, but can't find much.

Black metallic paint won't show in pictures unless it's a closeup of the paint itself. Other manufacturers have a metallic black. One that come to mind is the Toyota Corolla. If I get another black truck it would be the standard black. I prefer the mirror gloss and depth of dark non-metallic colors.

The V8 option is supposed to be released in either January or February. I would guess the order option should open in the end of December or first part of January if all goes as planned for GM.

A few of us had the opportunity to view the new color your talking about. On the tour of the Shreveport Plant they had just started production on the 08's. Everyone was talking about it. It's a very kick@ss color. Cameras were not allowed in the facility, so I don't have any pics of it.

The 5.3L V8 should be available to order now. It's been out a few years now.
one says now one says december lol:S hmm....and yea I'll maybe wait till the dealer gets a metallic black one in, and compare, if not then get a standard color like the silver birch or something :p decisions, decisions guys...I was actually ready to get an '07 this week, took one for the weekend (2007 Z71 extended cab, black, loaded), but it had high miles on it and hail damage it looked like, so I asked if there were any new '07's with leather, loaded up in canada, and he searched and searched, but nothing that I would like was left, so my choices were to wait and order an '08 or take a lower optioned model for a short lease :p which i wasn't too kean on it only makes sense to wait a bit more I guess...

Maybe I misread the post. The motor is available now, if you wanted to do a swap w/ your current truck. A lot of the Silverados have that motor.

If you're talking about ordering a new truck with the motor, yeah, you'll have to wait a while.

If you look on ebay under cars/trucks they are selling a brand new 2008 Hummer H3 with the 5.3l engine in it from the factory. It is the first one released and they want 43,000 for it. Check it out.N3

Not bad?? 20k more than a colorado xtreme for an extra 65 horsepower.I think I can find a better way to spend 20k and make more horsepower than the 5.3l. Just my opinion N3

There's on way i would spend that much on a colorado, no matter what engine it had in it. I paid 20 for mine new and I would not spend any more than that. It's a good little truck, but $33-35? no way!

I hope they plan on upgrading the brakes if they put a v8 in them though.

Doesn't the 5.3 in teh newest fullsize make like 365 HP? that's quite a bit more than 65 hp difference.

I wouldn't pay that much either. I never pay MSRP on my vehicles. My MSRP was what I listed above but I only paid $23,900 for my Xtreme.

OK, my guesstimation was high. I just built a loaded ZQ8 crew cab for $28,449. With the 5.3L and whatever upgrades GM may deem necessary to be packaged with the V8, I would guesstimate the MSRP to be $30k - $32k.

The ad said the 5.3l v-8 made 295 hp and 317 tq. our truck makes 220hp stock and I'm not sure what the torque was.So that would be 70hp difference but it is still not worth 20 grand more.Once my turbo kit is in.I will be in the range of 400 hp which will rip that v-8 apart.N3

I wonder what the weight difference is between the H3 and a crew cab colorado? 70 more HP, depending on additional weight would be something to consider also.

#19 ·
That v-8 motor has to weigh more than the I-5.They will have to do something up front to our trucks to get that v-8 to stop and to corner better than what we have now.I imagine the springs will have to be heavier to hold up that motor.I'm sure there must be somebody here that has the weights of these engines.

#20 ·
Somebody posted weights in another thread somewhere and I think the difference was around 150 lbs. I installed Belltech springs on my truck and the stiffness was significantly noticeable. I'm sure GM will address suspension and braking on the trucks. The Hummer already has rear disc brakes.

That would be good news if they changed the rear brakes to disk,It would be cheaper for us to do a swap in the future. The 5.3l would be a good platform to start with.I know there are several aftermarket parts available for that motor unlike the I-5.
I hope that GM prices the v-8 colorado within reason. There are too many sports cars on the market for less than 43k.I believe the silverado ss is cheaper than that.We will have to wait and see when it arrives.Isn't the camaro coming out in 2008?
If anybody finds out more on pricing keep us posted. Thanks N3

As I said above, a loaded 5.3 LT3 Colorado crew cab would probably MSRP in the low $30k range. If GM decides to make a Colorado V8 in the lower trim levels like LT2 or LT1, then we'll probably see an MSRP around $27k-$28k.

Remember, that H3 in the ebay listing is the Luxury edition and is why it MSRPs at $40k. An H3 Luxury with the 3.7 MSRPs at $37k. The $43k price is what Sewell Hummer thinks it should sell for because its one of the first 53.3 H3s. The H3 price does not reflect what the trucks' price will be.

If anyone is interested, I work at a dealership, tried to build for order a 08 v8 colorado, no luck its not in the system yet, Also have a black colorado in the new color, looks nice...Any questions let me know...
Chea ey turnedbowtie1 so your saying that you've recieved a '08 Colorado in the New Black Granite Metallic?? I'd love to see pictures if possible man that would be great, so this means that production has started of the 08's right...? Im not even worried about waiting for the V8 :p im sure the power will be just as sufficient in the I5, not like im towin a yacht haha :D

Well here are some facts about numbers that are being tossed around on this thread.

The 365 hp V8 someone mentioned is the Vortech Max motor, its a 6.0 liter if i remember correctly.

The numbers I saw for the 5.3 liter for the Rado was 310 hp and 317 in the torque department.

As far as wieght goes, please keep in mind that the 5.3 liter V8 is no longer a cast block but now aluminum. So I don't forsee the V8 being an additional 165 lbs.

Thats all I have.
