ZR2 locker in a non ZR2

some people have posted here that they converted their non ZR2s to the front locker, I want to do the same, but Im unsure of how to go about this. I know the parts I need, but what i dont is the wiring thru the diff. the zr2 locker is an e-locker, so some wiring is needed to power it, and the harness to a switch is easy, butg I have no idea how and where to drill a hole for the wires to pass thru the 3rd member. does anyone know where the wire passes thru? and or got pictures of it?

I did this. Search G93 axle on eBay and just get the whole front axle. They show up sometimes. After that get the wiring kit on Amazon and the factory plug that's also used for other applications. I found the plug on the Upfitters manual. https://www.gmupfitter.com/pdflists/view/41

If you just get the locker then Rock Auto has them and yes you would have to drill the hole for the wiring and also put in the anti-rotation pin if you don't have the compatible axle bearing cap. On top of all that you would need a new ring and pinion install for the front end.

I got the whole front axle but now is the time to deal a gear change if you want too change gears out. It can get a little expensive when you factor in the rear gears too but like I said now is the time...

So I’m just going to buy the locker. I got new 4.10 gears too. I’m going to wire the locker to my SPod mini 6 so I believe I don’t need any wiring harnesses My installer is going to drill a hole for me to run wire out of pumpkin. My question is could you possibly be so kind and share the part number of the correct carrier bearing cap or the anti slip pin? I’d greatly appreciate it.

all of the ebay ones are for canyons without the locker.... do people like to wreck canyons for some reason?

G93 is the code for the E-locker front differential, its G94 for the rear E-Locker and G80 for the stock z71 Locker. Sometimes they show up with the whole axle. If you work at a dealership then I'd just get a new locker and get it installed. The wiring isn't too bad its all explained in the instructions. You can also go to Eatons web site and find more information there.

In this case buying the whole assembly saves you from doing a ring and pinion job, and if you plan on reusing the same gears then pulling them from the original carrier.

I want to regear to 4.10, so a whole assembly would be best. For me the parts come out to 1800, but the dang case is on back order. And schram and eBay don’t have used models

Kind of following this. (Not an expert). Are you wondering about the bearing cap, with pin, that prevents wiring and the like from spinning with carrier?

My guess is, you already have that cap. Last time I changed my rear differential fluid, I noticed the rear bearing cap had that ‘pin’. Front one might also? Your mileage may vary. Keep us posted!

Tbh idk I got a 2021 gmc. I am wanting to add locker in front when I do re gear. I got gears and locker will be here this week then making appointment. I then saw dude saying if you buy from just locker you need the special bearing cap. I just wanted to have everything for my installer when I showed up so that’s why I asked. I have no clue what bearing cap he is talking about I just figured I needed it lol.

I don’t have the part numbers for difference bearing caps. When I did the rear axle it had the bearing cap with the anti rotation knob on it. I’ve heard that some may not have it. It may be as easy as drilling the cap and pressing a pin in it.

Mine was cast into the cap and it is the same on my 2018 non-elocker and a 2019 ZR2 elocker diff assembly I bought (shown). Pretty sure the caps are not sold separate as they are almost certainly bored (machined) precisely while installed in the differential case.

Bringing this thread back to the top....for those that did this, I understand all the hardware needed, but what was the wiring needed to complete it? Any walkthroughs on what was done?
