ZR2 Lift Kit

Has anyone thought of putting a lift on the ZR2? I just want to go massive on the tires and don't want to rub/trim. Anyone got any input? Honestly a noob when it comes to lifting a truck.

Thanks guys!

Right now, nothing out there except you can do the RC spacer in front to level and run 285's
Any higher front or back and you loose the advantage of the DSSV shocks
GM is working on a lift on the truck, will be pricey for sure

There are no lifts currently available for the ZR2 that I'm aware of. Mainly because lifting it would get rid of the DSSV Shocks which is a big part of the magic behind the ZR2's suspension. Also, from what I've read, normal Colorado lifts won't work either because of the differences with the ZR's suspension.

Supposedly there is a couple forum members who installed a body lift on the ZR2. Gas and diesel owners (kit is made for gas but with some mods and adjustments itll fit the diesel apparently) the rough country body lift says it doesn't fit the zr2, but a thread I saw a couple days ago, the guy used everything except the front bumper brackets, which are designed for the regular Colorado bumper? I believe he stated.

No lifts currently available. However, keep your eyes peeled the first couple months of next year. My truck is going into a major suspension company for some R&D for a kit that works with the Multimatics. I’ll keep y’all updated!

Suspension lift: Nothing more than others said

Body lift: There are kits for regular colorado's that will work. It would do about the same, but you can retain your stock suspension geometry. Should lift your cent of gravity though, so if you plan on off roading it might be beneficial to deactivate rollover airbags. Chevy Performance truck uses a 1.5" body lift, hydro bump stops, longer travel coilovers and leaf springs, stiffer front springs, telescoping cv axles, longer tie rods and fit 34's under neath. Bare minimum for what you want would just be a body lift and larger tires. Should be able to fit 34's reliably for a mall runner. Offroading might need some trimming though. Greg (G2skier) has 33's in and they tuck in nicely off road with minimal trimming without body lift.

This is kind of ridiculous. Why would a company with a reputation like AEV allow this truck to be featured? Sure, I recognize that it's more of an accessory display case, so to speak, but the fact they it'll rub when accidentally backing over the flower bed kinda detracts from the legitimacy.

EDIT:
I spoke with BDS, and the rep told me that they expect their 5.5" kit to be for sale late spring. It retains the stock shocks, too.
That's all he would divulge, but did state that the Colorado zr2 is a high priority project for them right now.

That's the whole point of the ZR2, the ride! I've managed to stay with my friends with Jeeps off road and I'm more comfortable on road than my friends with full size boats. As much as I want 34-35" tires I'm not giving up the DSSV's.

Holy speculation people. Thank you ocelot for tagging me in this mess.

BDS is using my truck in 2 weeks.

It will have a similar height to the sema truck minus the 1.5” body lift that it has.

That sema truck also has 2” cut from around the fenders to allow 37s. I’m not doing that...yet.

It’s retaining the shocks in proper operating range. They know what they’re doing there believe it or not.

The ride will be identical to stock. Just moving everything down to allow for better clearance, approach angles and bigger tires.

I specifically reached out to them about making a kit with the multimatics. I like mine a lot as you all do.

They have kit for the raptor that does the same thing. Stock shocks, just moved down.

For all of you that want bigger tires and no lift...a couple companies make fiberglass fenders and bedsides. That’s the only way to do it without cutting your metal fenders.

Hope this helps.

I’m not sure. They want 4.5” or less backspacing. Their reasoning was that tires could contact something when turning depending on tire size. That’s on the standard Colorado though. Our tires are already further out by 1.75” each side though because of the wider arms. I have seen a z71 Colorado with the lift and stock wheels so good chance it’ll work.

I'd like to see the template they used to trim the wheel wells/flares.
Truthfully, unless this kit does something to actually increase suspension travel ( not sure how if keeping stock shocks), I'm not really certain what, if any, FUNCTIONAL purpose it serves.
It may "look sweet", but for the cost of the kit, unless it truly improves performance and function, I'd sooner spend my money on Modding the wheel wells to accommodate 33x12's-- Max. @G2SKIER... did they give you any indication as to expected functionality/performance improvements, or just a higher center of gravity?

I think you might be more interested in the GM performance stuff they are developing. I think some of that stuff has longer suspension travel.

For me, I'm not looking for that type of suspension travel increase. For a daily driver I just don't feel like putting the vehicle in the types of situations where I absolutely must have the longer suspension travel. The ground clearance improvements will be more than enough. Just my opinion, but if you are looking for those type of improvements, the ZR2 doesn't make a lot of sense with the cost and specifically tuned nature of the shocks. Better off with a stock Colorado or even better would be a jeep (cheaper with greater selection of mods).

Yeah no more travel. But these trucks aren’t going to get much more travel without switching to a long arm kit and Kings. This kit will increase ground clearance, approach and departure angles and breakover angles. Will allow a 34 for sure. I got some 35s coming with my new Falken sponsorship. I’m sure they’ll fit.

Any indication when this kit might be released? Debating on doing just a level but if it's projected to be released around spring/summer this year then forsure il be holding off. Just got my light bar so that's enough money spent for now! I should probably start a build thread...

Can’t release details yet so no new news. They are thinking late spring for the release. The kkit is awesome with 35’s.

It definitely will be more than just 2 inches. Somewhere between four and five.

Rock crawling two weeks ago, I was easily following a Rubicon on 37 and where he was spinning, I would just walk straight up no problem
