Worth to get the spray on bedliner at the dealer?

When it comes to spray-on bedliners, is it worth it to get it at the dealer for the $475 or should I go aftermarket? On my current full-size truck I have Rhino-Liner and I love it. 20+ years and not a single chip.

I ordered my truck in 2017, but opted to get aftermarket.
My brother had 2 trucks done with Bullet liner and was very satisfied with both the product and attention to detail. Bullet is essentially Linex with UV incorporated into the material itself. The owner/developer of Bullet started the Linex company.
Bullet should run between $350 and $450 max depending on the dealer.

Regardless of the brand of liner, find one that does a lot of trucks and also has been in business for many years. Proper preparation and application of the spray on liner material is key. From scuffing the surface to applying only when humidity is below a certain percent. Too much moisture in the air will affect curing of the urethane liner material.

I did bullet liner. What he said.

This product is fantastic! Just find a certified installer.

Gusto!

Are you asking about the factory spray in liner, or a dealer installed product? The factory liner has the advantage of being sprayed by robots, which generally do a better, more consistent job. Unfortunately, it's also only covered by the 3 year warranty, not that it should matter, as I'm sure it will out live the rest of the truck. A dealer installed product would depend on what company they use, and how good the installer is but also typically has a lifetime warranty. This also applies to most third party suppliers.

I had mine done by the dealer and am happy with it. Partly I did it to save time. I took delivery of my truck on a Saturday and moved across the country on a Monday. I had Line-X in a previous vehicle and was very happy with it for the 10 years I had the truck. To my untrained eye, could not tell the difference side by side. I am sure there is one. Line-x performs 3% better in a blow zero abrasion test or something. But for me, it was one less thing to worry about at the time.

I have had my factory liner for two years now and have been happy with it. It has stood up to rocks, gas, oil, firewood, cinder blocks and other crap and still looks good. No complaints so far.

40 miles is a bummer, but for Line-X, I'd do it. If you talk to the provider, they should be able to schedule you in so you can bring in the truck and get it back in a few hours. The place I had one of my truck done at actually offered to let me use his truck while they did mine. Other alternative is have a friend follow you and go catch a movie and a meal while the work is being done. There are a lot of places doing bed liners, but trying to fix a bad install or getting stuck with an inferior product isn't worth the few miles saved IMHO.

@drabina - 40 miles to far? You must hate driving. Where I live, people travel 40 miles to get a coffee and a couple of donuts.

I traveled 85 miles to get the bullet liner. Travel the 40 to get the Line-X, it's worth the trip.

Gusto!

Actually, IMO, $475 isn't a bad price at all and should come w/same warranty/backing as after-market. My 2018 came w/spray-in, but had it done to my 2006 Colorado back in ~2008ish and recall a price in the high-$300's back then. If dealer's more convenient, go for it.

One of the biggest reasons I ordered my truck with factory spray liner was when I got the truck, I planned on driving it. Didn't have time to take it to get an aftermarket bedliner sprayed.

My dealership actually does the bedliner in house. I got mine done for free because my paint peeling/was coming off on the plastic welds in the bed. This was when less than 100mi was on the truck. Uber hauled a network server rack, a 6.0L aluminum block, and a few other heavy things. While the liner does the job the engine block and network rack made the liner come off and peel in a few spots. I've touched it up with vht wrinkle paint. (It's what I had laying around.) The engine block just sitting it in on the tailgate made the liner scrape off.

If I would do it again I would get a Line X or another companies product that has a lifetime warranty.

Just my $0.02.
