Just curious.

Seems there are so many posts about problems with 3rd gen models. Why do these new vehicles have so many issues?

Folks might think it is best to wait before buying a new generation model for a few years.

Thoughts?

Because the ones without issues are the silent majority, and I am one of them.

That is indeed true - the internet is a platform for people to complain. However new models typically have 'growing pains' and according to some stories I have recently read, quality issues have been plaguing all the automakers.

Henry Ford revolutionized the industry when he developed the assembly line. He also made everything in house, which meant he relied on no one else, only his own employees to produce his vehicle. In the past 30 years, the companies have moved away from that model and today's companies only make engines, transmissions and major body panels in house, relying on vendors to supply everything else. Many of those suppliers are over seas (Read: China) and control on quality becomes problematic. This method was pioneered by the Japanese, but in their case, the suppliers were still located in Japan, a relatively small country with very high standards when it comes to manufacturing. Parts for American vehicles come from all over the world.

Like with most forums, the #1 reason to come to them is to talk about a problem or find a solution to a problem. Other reasons are to discuss mods or to just join a community that you expect to be active in, etc.

But by and large I'd say most new users join forums to complain or talk about problems. It's kind of like making the observation that most people in the hospital are sick. While true, that doesn't mean that everyone everywhere is sick. People don't go to the hospital for no reason. Most people have a reason for coming here.

I had a 2015 first year second gen Colorado Z71. It had 7 recalls the first year. All fixed for free and had no other issues.
I had a problem with a pin (a $5 part) on the cowl cover of my 2023. NO other issues.
The 2024's won't have the issues but they'll cost more. Your call on what it's worth to you.

...The 2024's won't have the issues but they'll cost more....
I wish anyone luck that thinks the 2024 will be issue-less considering they are just beginning to get the majority of 2023s out to people and want to start 2024 orders in August
Majority of 2023 issues seem to be minor and considering the state of the automotive world not bad, the delivery timelines are the biggest issue

I think there have been 10 or more people join to say their cell phne charger does not work. I think it should be a seperate $500 option.
I have one on my 2017 and it does not work and I do not care...
give me the regular cluster gauge, am/fm/siruis with display and blue tooth phone connect, no middle screen , period.

that would probably save several thousand off the sticker

Seems about the same as any other roll out I can remember.

I posted one of those problems(door alignment issue). I'm still happy I found the truck I wanted and at my hometown lot no less. It was the only one within a 100 miles with what I wanted. I came here to look to see if anyone was having the same issue and answered a thread I found, I did not create it. Folks need to be aware of what to look out for but I'm also the only one who posted that particular issue so far,,,,, I'd say that is pretty good. I should have my truck back tomorrow with the issue resolved.

Yup, that's typical for the 3rd gen so far.

I keep see people mention Android Auto, so I googled it

"
What does Android Auto do?

Android Auto brings apps to your car display so you can focus while you drive. You can control features like navigation, maps, calls, text messages, and music. "

So it bings APP's on your screen so yoou can focus on your driving???? So I can tik tok and instagram check my stocks, watch a pod-cast all the while I am focusing on my driving. :ROFLMAO:

It's pretty much par for the course. Almost no major issues. Zero widespread major issues. Several little annoying issues. Lots of people with no issues. The issues will get better over time. It's just the way it goes.

This person says that the plant has implemented even greater quality control measures as of this week:

You may see more with this truck as it was not sold overseas to solve some issues first. The 2nd gen was sold overseas in various forms but the bones were much alike.

GM of late sells cars in China for a year or so if they can to work out bugs. But there will always be issues.

Supplier issues ans just working out the timing on the line is complex.

All I know is that I took a test drive in a new Colorado Z71 today. Left the dealer and it ran fine, seemed to pull well. Went on the freeway and it zipped up to 65 MPH in no time, no problem.

Got odd the freeway and while costing down the offramp the transmission made a bang and it went into a low gear. I put it in neutral since clearly there was something disscomebooberated here. Put it back in gear, the check engine light came on. Put my foot on the gas a little and then the engine went into safe mode and started smoking black smoke out the back. A couple of block demo the dealer it started missing and quit so I pulled it over. The transmission never came out of 1st gear after the clanking and discomebooberation. I told the sales guy that I was just trying to get it back to he dealer for him, but it isn't make it.

I walked back and got in my truck and left.
