TPMS question?

As a mechanic, is it possible to do it on the rim with prybars and such, sure. Do you want to bust your ass that badly to do it is another story. Most tire places around here will either charge you $5 per wheel if you are carrying it in, if they charge you at all.

As for what they look like, sadly I dont have my old ones lying around but, Ive seen 2 different styles both just as generic looking at the next.

As for the powder coating, yes, they completely disassemble to tire, weights, sensors and reinstall them (and rebalance them) when they put it together. Word of caution......when you go pick the tires up, let them install them at that time if possible. I had my spare tires and rims done, picked them up, rolled them into the garage to put on the following day only to come out and find one tipped over, naturally hitting a ratchet I had laying near it and putting a deep groove into the new rim. Thankfully I went back and the guy re-did that one rim on the house but, lesson learned.

Have to be honest with you....the TPSM monitor system sucks if you have any sort of OCD. Seeing 1 tire off by a pound drove me nuts. Now, I just refuse to check that part of the DIC.

On a side note, you can add a sensor to the 5th wheel but I believe you can only monitor any 4 at a time.

My personal feeling is, the car manufacturers added this system to generate money. The sensors only last about 5 years or so, then you have the people that rotate their tires and go back to have the system relearned....... While many people seem to freak out if their tire monitor light comes on, common sense tells you to just look at the 4 wheels....you'll usually know right away which one is lighting up the dashboard.

The problem is there is an annoying warning every time you start the engine and the dash light stays on if you don’t have working TPMS.
Hmmmm, my truck doesnt seem to have this feature. But then again, my truck has an upgraded stereo system that comes on as soon as I start my truck which they can hear 2 towns over. Cant for the life of me say Ive ever heard any such warnings. >:)
