SUN SHIELD?

Any comments on the sun shields that fit inside the windshield to cut down on interior heat build up? Do they work? I see Weathertech makes a nice one. With a all black interior, the heat can be brutal after being parked. Just wondering if it's a viable purchase.

Haven't used one on my truck but had one that lived in my Subie for years. They definitely work, if I was better about remembering to use it I'd say it's practically a must have.

I run a Covercraft UVS100 one on my Bison here in Austin, Texas where the sun is intense. I also have my windshield tinted so that helps too. They definitely work in radiating the heat back and the insulation means the inside of it is cool to the touch. I use it every time I'm parked in the sun.

Some folks love them some hate the. I am in the latter.

What was funny was the woman from Wisconsin that called and told us the one she brought from us was defective. She was upset it blew away from her Sonic.

We broke the new to her that it should have been inside. I hope she figured out to remove it before she drove off. She owned a Sonic should have been a clue Where the problem was.

I would guess if I lived in FL TX or AZ I would appreciate them more, Don’t worry about the UV but the deflected heat.

I have the WeatherTech complete set for my Z71.
I have found it pretty effective.

Any cover you use will help in 2 ways:

1) Reduce the heat inside the cabin of the truck in this case
2) Block Sunlight/UV Light from getting to the interior and slowing down the deterioration process

So, what ever sunshade you like get it...It will be a benefit.

As a former Valet that worked directly in the Vegas summer heat, sunshades and cracking the windows an inch help TREMENDOUSLY. Rolled up, black on black leather with no tint can reach over 200° on a 115° day. Average car was around 180. Tint, cracked windows and a sunshade was about 150-160.

The thicker ones work much better as insulators, but even the ones that are like silk sheets help a decent amount.

I have been using a Weather tech shield for a couple of years now and love it. Yes it was quite pricey but I use it every single day, especially now with all the working from home. I tried several of the cheap ones and they just didn't work well or fit well. When I ordered this on a splurge I was skeptical but was blown away at how nice it fit, it fits like a glove and this makes it easy to install/remove. I also have the side window deflectors and always leave my windows cracked to help vent the heat out.

The other thing to consider is the long term effects of UV on the dash, if a sunshade is used often and the dash is wiped clean with a cleaner it will help it look nicer for longer.

I have the WeatherTech, but it is a pain to roll and unroll. I bought an Intro-Tech Premium Custom
Folding Auto Sunshade that fits great and works great. A cheaper option about $45 or so. They are definitely needed in south east Texas. Temps in the truck so hot it melted my 3D printed phone mount.

I agree it is a pain to roll up the WeatherTech Sun Shade. I fold the windshield panel put it behind the passenger seat. The Passenger Side panels all go there and the Driver Side ones go behind the driver seat.

Took the plunge. Had a $50 AMAZON gift card, so ordered one. HEAT SHIELD. Custom fit for the Colorado. Figure it can't hurt with a all black interior.

It will definitely benefit you.
Having a Sun Shade of some sort will help protect your interior from the UV rays and reduce the temperature inside the cab.

I use a really large sunshield, I call it my garage. :)
When I have to park outside, I like to park with the front of the truck facing north, this helps a lot too, and saves the headlight lenses.

I've used since 2017 this internal sun shield: Fold-able Accordion Eagle Flag USA Windshield
It worked quite well reducing the temperature while parking at work. What I did not like was the installation as I have an external GPS + dash camera and the shade liked to reposition these. After two years the colors faded quite a bit and I decided to try this external sun shield: HEHUI Car Windshield Snow Cover
It worked well this winter (less ice scrapping), but now in summer it is even better. While the internal shield reduced the temperature feel-able, the reduction now is significant better and it does not mess with the dash camera alignment. The only downside is that the magnets at the bottom of the shield do not work with our aluminum hoods, but even in strong winds I have not experienced any issues yet.

Just got it Thursday, but impressed already. The HEAT SHIELD brand fits like a glove. And really no hassle to place and remove it. Rolls up and stores with a velcro strap. Fits so well you really do not need to swing the sun visors down. I can see this keeping the interior way cooler. No doubt.
