Airbags generally will not deploy on a corner impact. The sensors aren't located there. I'm sure there is an engineering reason, and given that despite the damage, you seem to be OK, their reasoning seems to be correct. The purpose of air bags is to slow down your body's deceleration rate, not to be a cushion as most people believe, and as the picture shows, the crumpling sheet metal and other parts performed that function - as they are designed to do. Sorry for your experience but glad you didn't suffer any injuries.
