Thats kind of scary the air bags didn't deploy but maybe wasn't going fast enough for them to? but at least your ok though!

 

Probably going 40mph the police even said they should’ve and yeah I’m fine just sad about the truck 😂

 

If you walked away relatively unscathed, the airbags probably would've done more harm than good. Hard to say, but I don't think they should've gone off in that situation personally...

I will also take the time to say, don't worry, that'll buff out. Glad you're okay.

That looks like some major damage.
From what I have heard you got lucky the airbags didn't go off, people say that the airbags hurt more than the accident.

 

Right behind the rear wheel of a 07ish ram 1500 and yeah it did a lot of damage I went to get my stuff out today and under the hood the oil cap is popped off I can see and the plastic manifold is smashed so no telling if there’s internal damage or not.

Airbags generally will not deploy on a corner impact. The sensors aren't located there. I'm sure there is an engineering reason, and given that despite the damage, you seem to be OK, their reasoning seems to be correct. The purpose of air bags is to slow down your body's deceleration rate, not to be a cushion as most people believe, and as the picture shows, the crumpling sheet metal and other parts performed that function - as they are designed to do. Sorry for your experience but glad you didn't suffer any injuries.

 

When a kid hit me in the same area. My bags didn't deploy. When the truck hit dirt head on. Every bag popped.

I only had my truck 9 months. It was bought as a salvage though. The replacement was new. And handles better. So truckwise. I'm happier. Moneywise. I'm not. lol.

 

It used to be that an impact over 5,15 degrees off the center line will not blow the bags. Off center angles and the bag blowing could push the passengers into the doors, door glass, each other causing other injuries. If you has a front seat passenger I would have thought the passenger side curtian would deploy? To protect there head from hiting the door glass.
All to often replacing air bag and the associated parts will total a repairable vehicle.
FYI I have 40 years in body shops.
