Perimeter bed lights

Hi all,

I'm not sure if anyone on here can answer my question yet, since most of us are still waiting on our trucks, but I ordered the GM Perimeter Bed Light kit (P/N 84861986) to add to my truck when it arrives, along with some other goodies from the GM accessory catalog.

I was surprised to find no installation instructions in the kit, only a sheet that says for Dealers, the installation instructions are available in the GM Service Information (S.I.) system, and for customer install, the instructions are available at accessories.GM.com well I have scoured the GM websites and have found nothing for installation instructions for this lamp kit.

Everything about this kit looks to be plug and play, and based on the harness length I presume the connector to tie these lights into the cargo lamp circuit (which apparently they are connected to) must be behind one of the taillights, problem is, the included sheet also says they "may require calibration by a GM dealer". So I am wondering if these are plug and play as they appear to be?, or is there a setting that needs to be adjusted via scan tool for the ECM or BCM to recognize these lights in order for them to work?...I would kind like to know before I tear into installing them.

Appreciate any factual info that anyone may have

Cheers

Just an update on my search for info regarding the bed lights...I was finally able to track down the correct installation instructions for this kit. I will post it in the "How-to" section but will add here that there is no dealer "calibration" required, they are plug and play.

Not justifying GM's crazy price but the ones in the kit from GM are capacitive touch lights...touch either of them on the lens to turn both of them on or off, kinda cool but yeah, pretty spendy.

The GM Kits come with plug and play wiring harness. Not much to screw up. Just have to spend some time under the truck plugging things together, running the wiring up into the bed. Then just connect the lights to the wiring, screw them to the bed and tie wrap everything underneath.

But for a lot less you can make the wiring harness and add better lights for coverage without the fancy touch on. The fancy touch on is nice, but can be mimicked with switch.

Video was just posted on this forum for adding these lights.

So far it seems the online accessory instructions are not currently available for any GM accessories. If you have a good relationship with your dealer service/parts department they likely can print a copy for you.

In this case, I'll be surprised if there is any significant difference between the referenced video and GM's instructions. This is pretty much plug & play.

For those planning on installing Amazon or other lighting, you can use the blunt-cut pig tail the video references to throw away. Cut the sealed ends off, solder the kit's wiring to these leads and good to go. On the pigtail, black is ground, gray with blue stripe is battery, constant hot. I just finished installing some LED strip lighting in mine.

Thanks, installed LED strips today using that pigtail.
