After dealing with my 2008 Canyon's 5-cylinder fun, I decided it was time to upgrade. This is my first new vehicle and I'm extremely thankful. Here's a story of my expedition to pick it up:
Living in Alaska, the choices aren't always as vast as they are in the lower 48. There were Denali's up here, but with the diesel engine (I don't tow). I'd considered flying to Seattle and driving back up to Anchorage. Thankfully, I just happened to have spotted one in Fairbanks.
The night before my 14-hour trip, we had our last snowfall of the season (April 2019). The roads were icy and it took me an hour to get to the highway. I was having second thoughts about making the trek, as it was so slick. After about 30 minutes on the highway, the road cleared up phew!.
A few hours later, I was approaching Cantwell and hit a snow storm. A second wave of doubt went through my mind. I was running low on gas and had trouble finding an open gas station. When I finally did fill up, I noticed the entire front of my truck was covered in thick ice. I wish I had taken a picture of it!
Refreshed, I hit the road again.
I was driving into mountain territory and I couldn't enjoy it. The snow made for limited visibility. "Just a little farther".
After another few hours of driving, I finally make it into Fairbanks. I went straight to the dealership, did the paperwork, and was on my way home after about an hour.
I didn't realize the sun had come out and warmed everything up. Driving back was beautiful and most of the snow and ice on the road had melted. I finally got to see the beauty of the mountains.
6-7 hours later, I pull up at home. My wife and son are sleeping. I celebrate with shot of vodka.
Thanks for reading, if you did! I really enjoy my truck. Feel free to share your stories!
