Leather or custom seat covers

Someone in this forum mentioned Katzkin for custom leather seat covers for our twins. Is there any other companies that offer leather or fake leather seat covers that you would recommend? And anyone with experience with Katzkin, do they give you a cover or do they actually replace your old cover and apply and sew the new cover over your seat?

I went to their site and chatted with a install pro and they quoted me about $2K for the 2 fronts and one rear bench in black main with a gray insert with double diamond with black stitches. They said for my 21 Canyon they don't have the double diamond insert but it could be custom ordered for $500 for the front and $500 for the rear, and an extra $150 for the front and $150 for the rear for the stitching. So before tax it would be $3,300 and after my 10% local sales tax it would be $3,630 for real leather seats

So I guess that $1,200 plastic leather package on the Trail Boss isn't so expensive now

My mother had Katzkin in her 2015 GMC Terrain. They were fantastic! They do replace the factory seat skins, and their fit & finish is excellent. But as you discovered, they are expensive. And you'd be hard pressed to find another company wirh so many options.

I personally have had Covercraft covers on a 2007 Wrangler & 2008 Silverado, and liked them a lot. They cover the factory skins, and both sets fit very well and had adjustable buckle straps everywhere. They had several available materials and colors, with a few 2-tone & stitching options, though nothing like Katzkins. One benefit is they have a little additional foam padding, which did help with long-drive comfort.

One thing about Katzkins is they generally require installation by an authorized dealer/installer. Not sure why, as anyone who can modify their own truck or Jeep would have no trouble installing them, with perhaps an assistant. I'm not sure if that's built into the quoted price or not.

I put cloth seat covers over my leather seats so my legs will not stick to the seat, that hurts...

I'd definitely spend the money for the Katzkin. Good warranty, good customer service. Anything you get when it comes to leather - inspect them in good light before you install them. Sometimes the cut will be from a different roll between seats and be a slightly different color. I've seen worst case scenarios and it can be pretty bad. I know for sure that Clazzio (what Tacoma owners use) has reports of that, but Katzkin is what covers these trucks (when they get 3rd gen covers that is).

I replaced the seats in my 2006 Mustang factory leather with Katskinz after about 5 years. I bought the skins and did the replacement myself. Took a few hours on a Saturday.

I loved them, they were fantastic and outlasted the factory leather easily. Had that car another 8 years and the seats were still like new, when I finally departed with that car.

They are quality and well worth it.

I've gone really cheap on seat covers, they look terrible, but they protect the seats really well, and you can pull them off with one motion.
This is what the drivers seat looked like after 44,000 miles on my 2018 Canyon.

Amazon $170 these are the cheap "leather" covers I am looking at because $4K for seats is out of my range.

I had a friend that went that route, and it didn't work out. They were no where close to a nice fit, buldges, wrinkles, and in many places loose and sliding. Looked like one size fits all from walmart.
So just beware, check for user images, and reviews.

Not sure if I'm the user you've seen but I've definitely been touting Katzkin. Maybe the price has shot up with inflation but it cost me about $1700 for my bronco with heated seats in the front.

Quality is impeccable. When my TB arrives - I don't plan on doing the conversion in the first year so they've got time to come out with something. I'll be searching for a newly totaled 3rd gen LT, Z71, or Canyon so I can get the rear seat back with an arm rest first. That way I'll order the leather package for an LT/Z71 and I'll get the leather and the rear center armrest too.

At the end of the day - I probably should have just ordered a ZR2 at $53,000 but I didn't want to spend another $9k on top of what I'm already spending. It makes it more palatable to bite off in chunks but no doubt even with all of Chevy's insane packages you get more for your money on the front end - not aftermarket.

With that said - my $44k trail boss will get:
  • Tonneau cover - $500
  • Z71 Leather wrapped wheel - $500
  • Fox 2.5" Shocks - $1500
  • Window Tint - $500
  • Rock Rails - $500
  • Katzkin Heated Leather Seats - $2500
  • Auto-dimming Homelink Rearview mirror - $350

That is $6k in accessories and add ons and gets me banging on the door of a ZR2 that has it all - DSSV, front and rear locker, 3" lift, etc etc.

The only thing I'm not doing right away is the Katzkin so call my truck at $48,000 - that is still one hell of a beast. You can't get a Ranger Tremor for that price (2022) and their raptor starts at $58k.

straight from Chevy. They aren’t available for the 2023s yet but they will be before you know it.

A leather wrapped heated wheel assembly for the 2022 model year (meaning you reuse the buttons, air bag, and and center cover) is on sale for $125 right now.

I figure there will be a premium on 23 so I expect to pay 2-3x that.

Well worth it if you ask me. Depending on how they do their heated wheel I may be able to add that too, but I’ve never done that previously.

My brother had katskins on his tacoma and he likes them. They are nice I will admit. It's either katskins or wet okole that requires professional install through one of their approved installers. I have used FIA seat covers in the past. It was about 250 for the front seats in a 2001 ranger and 300 for a 2007 f250 I used to own. The price is great. The fitment was spot on. No special stitching or anything like that. The leather felt real. I am probably going to wait for a smaller company like them to make fitted covers. 1000+ for seat covers is steep. I would be wary of some of the big companies. People seem happy with them but when I look at pictures of them installed they look like ****.

I guess I went cheap. These were on sale on Amazon and had good reviews.

BLINGBEAR Full Coverage Leather Car Seat Covers 5 Seats Universal Fit for Most Cars Trucks and SUVs with Waterproof Leatherette in Automotive Seat Cover Accessories (Grey) https://a.co/d/2p12YLV

The link is for the grey set, because it looks like the black is "currently unavailable". The front set fits nicely, and covers the entire headrest as well as the seat sides. Some cheaper cover leave the sides exposed.

The rear covers are more 2 dimensional, but still should protect the seats well enough.

It's worth mentioning that once the rear covers are on, it's more of a pain to raise the rear seat bottoms if you need to access the under seat storage.

front and rear seats with one off the list or did you get it custom? And how much was it? $2,250 after tax?

I've been searching car seat covers for a long time using seatcoversolutions because they fit great and they look even better. The quality of the materials is top-notch and I know these covers will last a long time.
Thanks for the info. Their site and cover options look good for a cheaper option of fake leather covers, and they are made for the 2023 twins so you don't have to guess like most of the ones on Amazon. I will probably get these for my Colorado Trail Boss when I get the truck in a few years. That way I don't have to pay $1500-$3000 for the packages to get leather from the factory, or the $2,500 for Katzkin to install them, so the $400 is much more in my price range and if they get damaged they can be replaced easily.

For those who did Katzkins, how much did that help with overall comfort of the seats? I have 24 Z71 with the cloth/vinyl seats and looking at Katzkins to improve the feel/comfort of the seats but wondering how much they helped with softening up the seat bottoms, as they are pretty hard right now. The lady at katzkin showed me the foam that they add in the bottom and back and it looked like foam for bottom was around 3/4 inch.

did anyone go with Katzkin XT? Considering that as well for improved durability

Also, do these seats improve with time? Guessing there is some where in period and I’m still early on.
