Hi guys!

I'm new here! :)

Got to admit, I don't got a colorado, sadly, I do not have any plans on getting one neither.

BUT here's why i joined. I have a long term project which involves a certain Audi 1985 80 quattro sedan (type85). Now some of you might have heard about the Audi sportquattro which was the first car to introduce 4wd in rally, and that car basically looks like a shortened type 85 coupe.
Well, my project is to make the sedan into a sportquattro sedan, with four doors.

So, what do you need in a project like this? A powerful engine!
Now i already got an 2.2 20v turbo engine (AAN) from an audi s4 with about 230 bhp. I can go ahead and tune this engine which pretty easy will make 500bhp+. Though i want more grunt on the lower part of the register so I was wondering about stroking it. After a bit of research I found out that the best setup would only give me 2.5L without limiting the rev to much.

So here's the question, do any of you guys think that the vortec 3500 can compete this engine? Any major problems with the engine? have you seen many turbo/compressor applications on this engine? Any reliable applications? how much do these usually sell for in the U.S.? How high do they rev? how tall is the rods of the engine?

As far as i know the vortec 3500 (180kg) has a little weight advantage from the AAN (200+kg? not sure though). This is very good for me because the car had a really bad weight distribution, about 60-40 originally with the AAN engine.

I probably have more questions, but it's 03:30 in the night here so i better go to bed. Got somewhat carried away when I stumble upon this engine :)

Thanks for any help! :)

Well, I'm not going to just bolt on a turbo or super and hope for the best...

I would probably "destroke" it to try to get higher rev and change most of the parts on it. Wouldn't have gone for the standard 10:1 in compression f.eks.
Some how i think it's a waste for me to use this engine now though.. maybe in the future, but now it'll probably be to expensive.

Though it would have been nice to see some dyno-charts/graphs for the engine to see how much difference the 1L+ bigger volume makes, and maybe the specs of the setup used.

Mmm.. but that said... i can't just bolt on a bigger turbo on the one i have neither... f.ex. the rods probably bend around 300-350hp depending on the nm they are exposed to... but there's ALLOT of aftermarked parts for it....

But i it's strange that someone haven' started making aftermarked parts for the vector 3500... is it no marked for this engine since it has a bigger v8 or something in the same chassi?

I'd stick with the Audi S4 engine. If you can afford it the 2.7T out of an A6 or S4 can be killer and push 600 HP on race gas. They also hold up well to the punishment and guys have run 24+ PSI. In addition to that they're a torque monster hitting peak below 2,000rpm.

If I had $20,000 to blow I'd start building a B5 S4 tomorrow and shoot for the 10sec title.

The 2.7tt engine would sure be fun to, but i think the 2.2t is a better engine to use... more parts and experience available.
Do you know what the 2.7tt weighs btw?

Sadly, 20k wouldn't go for in Norway. You'd get the and s4 with the 2.2t engine, but that's it :)

To be honest, as far my experience goes. Custom parts aren't that much more expensive, but you'll need the knowledge or someone to help you when you're ordering and building the engine.
