That's made me go look at the site. I saw a post on IG and thought it was for front coilovers. At least they have the rears. I assume they'll come out with fronts if these sell. The leaky DSSVs have me concerned for folks out of warranty so I'm happy to see an alternative that is custom tunable and easily rebuildable.

Weird. I didn't see that earlier. I better get my eyes checked.

Updating the thread title now.

I bet they were doing webpage updates when we looked since they JUST announced the ZR2 models on Instagram yesterday. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :grin2:

But yeah, the DSSV dampers are flipping amazing. Before anyone gets offended, I am not trying to say the Kings are better. They are different and there are different opportunities they offer where they could be better suited for a specific application. They are also a heap cheaper than the the DSSVs at regular pricing. If you are savy or have connections with GM you can find the DSSVs for around the same price but for those who don't want to go through the hassle of deal-finding the Kings are a nice reliable option that are easier to service at this point in time.

If you desire custom tuning, which you should, then I know these will be offered by the popular tuning retailers like AccuTune, Filthy Motorsports, Downsouth Motorsports etc. IMO you should never ever buy a set of Kings 2.5s or Fox 2.5s without custom tuning.....

I would like to be able to drive both sets back to back. I'm pretty happy with the performance of the DSSV both on and off road. Looks like the King is about the same price as oem DSSV's. Now if the long travel DSSV's would come down in price.

They are excellent on road. Again, assuming you have them tuned for you application. If you are like me and have a huge difference in load between daily driving and camping then upgrading to the compression adjustable versions will allow you to adjust the ride firmness as desired. For winding mountain road you can firm them up to handle corners better or soften them for slow speed off-road. If you normally run with an empty bed during your daily commute you can run the rears soft then firm them up when you load the bed to reduce wallowing.

They don't have the same degree of adjustability as the Fox 2.5 with DSC but Fox has their own cons.

I think you're still limited to the typical coilover max lift of about 3" (2"-2.5" being optimum). While not exactly the same as a ZR2, I was very surprised to get about 2.8" of lift with Kings on my truck with soft 550lb springs and all of my additional weight with only 4/5threads showing. The Tacoma boys usually have to run 650lb or 700lb springs to achieve that kind of lift and or max out preload (10-13 threads showing above cap). King recommends no more than 8 threads showing for preload according to info on TacomaWorld. Maybe our resident King gurus know more.

King Shocks - Direct replacements for ZR2 (front and rear)

This is a nice alternative for those who have either outgrown their DSSVs or blew them up and are out of warranty.

I was wondering if I need the extended length? I have a stock blue 2019 zr2 and it has the off-road package which is front coil overs on front and dash shocks all around. I just don’t know what I need when it comes to these shocks. Also do I need compression adjusters?

You don't "need" either of those features. The standard Kings will be a direct replacement for factory. But if you want and are willing to pay for the added features, go ahead. Their name implies exactly when they are, and they just enhance the ride even further.

Keep in mind that it is advised that you get aftermarket UCAs (Upper Control Arms) for extended travel coilovers, which will add another $900+ to your tab. Also note that there is over a year wait for Kings. You might be able to snag a set that randomly becomes available, otherwise new orders are in the 60+ WEEK range.
