My dealer said it was included in the first two oil change services. It was oil change tire rotation and 1 gallon of def.

It was for me on my first free oil change.

 

It should be 2 gallons of def, that's what they told me when I had mine done.

 

Mine was down to IIRC 300 miles the first time, and the dealer filled it completely back up> pretty-much 5 gallons.
The second time I had just filled it a week or so before, but they topped it off anyway

 

I don't think so. Usually no consumables are included in free maintenance but I think a lot of dealers do it because it easy an not a major cost.

 

My last "free" oil change had the verbiage "topped off under hood fluids" but they must have filled mine up. Which I was actually not wanting since I was down to 30% and planning on deleting soon, but now I have a level of 85% LOL

 

I never quite understood "2 years maintenance" deal, 2 oil changes are done easily every 5 months for me. I don't personally know anyone who only changes their oil once a year.

On topic though, my dealer topped my DEF off on my first oil change.

It is a 5 gallon tank for DEF I believe. Mine almost ran out on vacation in Big Bend. I assume they only put in a gallon or something. The stuff isn't super expensive or anything. I just filled it up. I dont think it was more than $20.

 

The 2 GM Maintenance Services include 2 Gallons of DEF each visit.

 

GM tells us dealers to top off the DEF at the oil change. So, what ever it takes. Granted what GM is paying the dealership for this sucks, but that is not the customers fault.

 

I just had my first oil change done on my 16 diesel Colorado (@ 7500 miles) this past Saturday. I asked for DEF and they filled the DEF tank as part of my 2 included services. Invoice showed 4 gallons of DEF added. Service was done by Banks Chevrolet in Concord NH.

 

I'm coming up on 5200 miles on my 16 Canyon dmax. Oil life is showing 33% remainder. I'm thinking it's prob a good time to go ahead and get that first change done even though it's a little early. I see that maybe @UNCLE FESTER went a little longer. I'm getting the impression that most people are going a little short on the first change. Is that true?

 

According to the GM fine print, the answer is No. My dealer tops off the DEF as a courtesy.

My dealer said first two oil changes are covered including a gallon of DEF at each service. Just had the first oil change and DEF refill done.
By the way that was a dealer by my office and not even the one I bought the truck from.

DEF IS NOT included. If a dealer tops of the DEF it's a courtesy.

I am a parts manager for a Chevrolet dealership in Michigan. Topping off the DEF is part of the maintenance done on the diesel equipped vehicles.

No one should be told that DEF is not included. No limit on quantity, it is to be filled. If you have a problem, call GM customer service. GM is paying the dealership, although not very much, and I am sure some will try to limit what the customers get to salvage some profit.

 

That's for 2017 model year. What does the fine print say for 2016 colorados and canyons?

 

The difference between 2016 and 2017 is, 2016 you get up to 4 maintenance events. Nothing changed with what's included.

 

Is that every purchase? My dealer mentioned nothing about it and I did the first two oil changes at my expense

 

I know GM wants everyone to follow the oil life monitor. They ask the dealer to have customers wait until the monitor is at or below 20%. If it was done at the dealership, I would ask for my money back, or call GM customer assistance.

 

With the discussion here about free tire rotations, I took my truck to the dealer. The same dealer that gives four free oil changes. They told me tire rotations are not included. I really don't know one way or the other.

 

Free tire rotations are with the 4 free maintenance events. Not sure why dealers can't follow rules, other than what GM is paying may not cover costs at some dealerships. Use my previous screen shot. It shows what GM is telling us dealers must be done. If not call GM customer assistance to get what you have ultimately have already paid for purchasing the truck.
