One month old 2021 Colorado Z71 has the rebooting issue with CarPlay, when using Google Maps and phone call.
The good news is that you aren’t losing your mind. It’s real. The bad news is that the problem doesn’t seem to be one that GM and/or Apple are in any kind of hurry to fix. The “workaround” is to only use Bluetooth and avoid CarPlay... they should probably remove CarPlay as a listed feature on the window stickers...

Its really hit and miss too. I can talk to my wife for 45 minutes without it doing at all and I have one friend that it happens every single time I talk to him, regardless of how long

Yup, I believe mine is getting worse. Yesterday, wasn't even on the phone and it crashed. I put the truck in reverse, it crashed. One 30 minute car ride it crashed 3 times.

I am having the same issue, dealer told me it was when the Apple and Chevy updates occur at different times, until both are running on the same versions it will happen. I do think it has everything to do with the phone model - I have an 11proMax. it only happens when I am on the phone - does not have to be utilizing gps and it never happens when I am running gps and not on the phone. I had a 2019 Nissan Murano before the Colorado and did not have Apple Carplay issues and system reboot issues - only with the 2020 Colorado and only after the updates began after the Apple 12 was released. I love my Colorado but do not love this problem. My husband has a 2020 Silverado 2500 HD, does not have this issue, but has an iphone 8 and has not been running the updates - still on IOS 13.5ish.....

I don't believe that for a second, thats just what they say to get you to leave. My ol lady has a 19 trax with and iphone 12 and she has zero problems with car play.

1 thing that mitigated this for me was deleting the Bluetooth connection and only using CarPlay. I’m not sure if this really helped but mine only pukes out a little bit every couple weeks now. I end up with no audio or the black screen sometimes.
I just jumped onto it and it took 3-4 minutes for the Chevy logo to even pop up while I was driving down the road.... so my “fix” isn’t great lol

This is exactly what I have. One particular friend will consistently cause the issue. Usually I will momentarily hear them on my phone then nothing on the Colorado (2020), then the system will reboot. Also while just talking the volume will go up and down all by itself. Sometimes things come back OK after a reboot, sometimes I have to pull over and turn the truck off to get everything back. My dealer said of course said it is an Apple issue and wanted me to go back to IOS 13, like I would ever do that. I gave up.

Yup that's it. I think this problem is more widespread than GM thinks. How many people just put up with it and go about their day? Also sometimes on the phone the turn signal sound won't even come on when my blinker is on. Very weird glitches with this truck.

Oh yeah. I forgot to mention the turn signal issue. I did a 4 hour drive today and had several times where I could hear myself on the phone as well as one or both speakers drop out at times on a call and the turn signal sound stop working

Have you done an internet search for this issue? Not being snarky - someone may have found a solution.

My '17 Colorado is the first vehicle I've owned with Car Play so I had to do some research to learn the in's and out's of the system. My phone would connect to the WiFi even though I had no data plan and when it did this, the whole thing was squirrelly. Turning off the WiFi solved my problem. Since then, either GM or Apple (or both) has done something that fixed my issue.

I was amazed at the number of vehicles and manufacturers having similar problems. And the seemingly random nature of the problems - one person has the problem but hundreds of others with the same vehicle and phone don't. Reading the issues convinced me that the issues probably aren't all GM's fault or all Apple's fault.

I have a few different family members and friends with new Chevy vehicles with CarPlay. None of them have this issue.

Exactly. This is not some issue that every GM radio has, and it is not even a problem that every Colorado/Canyon has. You can find examples of people who drive practically every make of car who are experiencing issues with CarPlay. I'm not trying to minimize the frustrations you are experiencing - just making an observation that it may not be a GM-caused defect.

I have a 2021 Colorado Z71 using iPhone 12 Pro Max iOS 14.5.1 With USB Apple carplay using Google maps, and Apple music. Infotainment system randomly reboots with incoming phone calls. During a phone call, the volume levels blares uncontrollably, when I try adjusting the volume knob a few times the music level and phone sound levels are not independently controlled, volumes fluctuate drastically and then the infotainment system eventually crashes.. powers down and restarts. Super annoying and dangerous when trying to conduct business since I am on the road a lot. Love it when it works... hate it when it has a tantrum! Dealer is aware of the problem but offers no fix or work around solution. May, 05, 2021.

yeah they wont do anything for you. Not sure they could if they wanted to. They can’t fix their own product lol.

My screen powered off 3 times in a 15 min drive today. It’s the first of this happening. I recently upgraded my iPhone X to iPhone 12pro max. Anybody find a solution to this yet?
