I read the heat shield rattle thing on 04's. Does this apply to 05's also?

TBeck2000 asked if it applied to 05's in the thread and no one got back to him on it.

I'm just wondering because recently I get the rattling that sounds like its coming from the rear just like described.

I took it to my exhaust shop because one of the hangars holding my muffler had come off. I thought it was that but it didn't fix it. I also had them check for anything wrong on their side and they said the rest looked good.

So I'm thinking this might be it.

Easy troubleshooting on the exhaust manifold heatshield. All our heatshields are held on with studs/nuts. There are three heatshields.

Eliminate the manifold one, Take it off. Four 10mm nuts. Disconnect the o2 sensor, pull off the shield, reconnect the o2. Take it for a drive. If the buzz/rattle is gone, then that was it. [If it still buzz's, check the O2 sensor tightness with an 7/8" open end wrench...] Before you put it back on, bend out the heat shield flange wider down by the O2 (that is what contacts and vibrates). Then put it back on when the exhaust cools down.

The other two are under the truck, near the second cat.

All my problems were on the front one.. I hope that helped ya. Good luck.

I have had the heat shield rattle for a while now. I removed it and bent it only for the sound to come back eventually. What do you think about replacing the shield with a exhaust header wrap? Would this be as effective as the heat shield? At least it would not rattle, right? Here is an example of what I was talking about.
