2015 Colorado & Gas pump handle doesn't stay in place without holding during fill ups at gas station...

Hi 2015 Colorado and Canyon owners...

Is anyone having trouble getting the gas pump handle to stay locked and in position while pumping gas? I'm finding that if I don't hold in position, the handle partially slips out of filler hole and gas stops pumping. (trigger lock releases)

I've experimented and experience this issue at most gas pumps/stations. This seems to me like an engineering flaw that was missed during R&D. In addition it seems like a safety issue and I'm wondering if GM will re-call and fix this on 2015 models?

I have the same issue. We have the vapor recovery nozzles in California and it's a pain in the rear to fill this truck up. The nozzle is constantly clicking off because it pushes out from the filler hole.

I've never had this issue with other cars. There's also no place to store the gas cap while filling.....

Does your state use the vapor recovery nozzles? In most states the gas nozzle looks like a regular skinny little gas nozzle and stays right in. In California, we have these giant gas nozzles that look like Robocop's arm and they take about 15 lbs of pressure to jam down the gas filler tube.

The absolute worst is trying to fill a gas can. It takes at least two people to hold the can down while you put all your body weight on the nozzle so it can fill. Our crazy government does this so you can't get high smelling the gas fumes. It's actually pretty crazy though, there is absolutely no smell of gas out here while you fill your car.

Maybe the fill angle in the new truck is a little different.

In the several vehicles I've gassed up in 18 years of living in California, it has never been a problem. Two VW vehicles. 3 Ford Vehicles. My Canyon. Um....other GM rentals, a Chrylser rental....
To call the nozzle a pain I think is an overstatement.
There are a few other internet comments about other vehicles (Denali) that seem to also have this concern.

On a side note, I miss inhaling the fumes when I'm gassing up. I can't even get a fix in Oregon, they pump the gas for you.

So I have this problem as well but only at certain gas stations. At my usual gas station (Fred Meyer) I have no problem. When I go to Safeway and get gas the whole nozzle wants to jump out. It's no big deal to have to hold it there but something is amiss because my Wife's highlander does not have the same issues at Safeway.

Some of the Sam's Clubs around here have the gas pump nozzles like you are describing, and they can be pretty finicky to deal with.

My Wrangler did not have a place to hang the gas cap, but the Wrangler has a nasty habit of burping the fill port before the pump shuts off. Really should be a recall item, as I have seen many comments about this. In any event, the burp of fuel would splatter all over the gas cap and I would get it on my hands when I went to re-install the gas cap. I have gotten in the habit of sticking it on top of the inserted nozzle, it will sit there nicely and not get any gas splattered on it that way.

There is always many ways to skin the cat. (I am a dog person, by the way.)

I recently had that problem with my Colorado, too. Must be the vapor recovery system causing the fuel filler to detect an apparently full gas tank.

I have never had an issue with the fuel nozzles on my canyon while traveling the coast. It must be the Cali nozzles as most states have a variety of fume recovery nozzles and they all stay locked when i use them. Never a problem in my home state, they pump the fuel for me

Aren't manufacturers required to have some kind of fuel filler cap retention solution nowadays? I noticed that the last few new cars I've put gas in, there was a tether or lanyard to the fuel filler cap. Since the engine light will come on if you don't put the cap back on after fueling the car/truck, it makes sense that the car companies would make a method to retain the fuel filler cap in a convenient way for the consumer.

The fuel door latch is a push/push device. There is a separate fuel cap lanyard hook. The fuel door latch is at the far right of the fuel area. See the second picture for more detail.

What's that secondary circular bump for that's near the original fuel receptacle? See the first picture for more detail.

Second bump is for the DEF tank on the diesel.

Makes sense. Chevy is going to use the same "clean diesel" solution that it currently uses for the diesel Cruze, except this time we won't have to trade out the spare tire for the DEF tank that's filled with the concentrated ammonia solution for the diesel catalytic converter.

I have a 2010 Camaro and live in CA, and have to do the same thing. Was hoping this wouldn't be an issue with the Colorado, guess I was wrong.

In Wisconsin to day when i filled up at kwik trip the nozzle fell out of the gas fill neck so there is a problem put it back in and shot backwards again so i held the nozzle in the fill valve neck nozzle shut of and i was still able to put about 2 more gallons in the tank so this might be a problem the nozzle fell out of the tank on me i have a 2015 colorado extended cab work truck 3.6

First fill up today for my new Canyon. As a result of reading the posts in this thread, I stood by ready to catch the nozzle in case it started to fall out. But no problems -- nozzle stayed in the tank during the entire fill up and pump shut off without incident. USA gas station - So. Cal.

Whenever I fill up my Colorado, the nozzle can never seem to stay in. I have to hold up and apply force to the nozzle the whole time in order for the fuel to flow into the truck. Is this a design flaw or can it be fixed?
Probably would have been difficult to locate this thread without knowing what to look for. Not sure it solves any issues, but here it is.

Also, I remember a comment by someone, perhaps SavageBob, that there is a component in the fuel filler line to prevent siphoning of fuel that was an issue for someone?

CA Gas Station Issues

Has anyone had a trouble with CA gas pumps? I feel like I can never get it to fill up continuously without clicking off or the pump popping out just enough trigger the pump to shut off. Was getting a little frustrated today when even holding it I could only get about 3/4 of a gallon before it clicked off again. Seems intermittent but often enough to annoy.

That happens to me sporadically, usually at older pumps. Most of the time it doesn't do that though and fills up all the way without issue. We were down in San Diego this summer (not that there's anything special about the CA pumps that I know of). It happens all the time with my motorcycle though.

It happens with my truck maybe 1/20 times if that.
