just to let ppl know this cuz i found out the hard way i did a transmission tune up on a 05 colorado that has the 4l60e tranny.so i pick up at my job the bnm trick shift fluid then i went to autozone and ask for the filter kit and ask 5 times if this was the right filter the guy was like i dont know and i looked at it and our stock filter that works with our pan is a low profile from gm and so i took the one from auto.same gasket and filter o-ring but the filter was siting down more then stock one so when i put the pan back on it didnt work the pan was not sitting right and lets say it was a bad day for me cuz i had to go to chevy to get the right one......so if anyone is thinking on doing a tune up on their tranny dont get a part number TF351 its not the right filter for our year transmission.

Good to know. But thats what happens when you go to Vatozone.

My gosh......that was a little bit rough to read also....

Well hate to sound like a jerk, but you shoulda known better yourself. I mean c'mon of course those guys aren't gonna know if its the right one all they have is that their computer tells them. They don't have some master magician guy there who knows everything about anything on all cars, if they did they wouldn't be working at VatoZone ill tell you that.

Plus on important stuff like filters, pumps and electrical items you should def get from a dealer especially on a new car. Aftermarket OE sucks sometimes why risk it?

I wouldn't say Never Go To VatoZone cuz i go there all the time for cheap parts on side work cars or cheapy tools or maybe some brake pads and washer fluid. I would say don't get tranny filters from vatozone.

But thank you for posting the heads up about the TF351 filter kit not fitting our autos. GM does use different pan and valve body configs on their trannys according to vehicle.

Thanks for the heads up by the way are you drinking Red Bull or something I say that because reading one long run on sentence with no punctuation is like listening to someone on crack try to tell you a story it's like "I am the great Cornholio" woooahhh "I need teepee for my bung hole" mmmuuuahhh "Bungholio"

True to all, But the dealer isn't a save all either. I bought my trans filter from the dealer and it too didn't fit. When I took it back to complain with a pic of the right filter they didn't know what to say. To their credit, they gave me the right filter according to the books. The part number in the book for a 4x4 I5 crew with automatic was the same number on the box and also on the filter itself. It jsut doesn't fit the trans. Turns out the 4x4 has the pan notched out for clearance. This also happens to be the side for the filter too. So needless to say, the filter has to be notched too....... Went to 5 different dealers and they all listed and had the same filter. So I ended up putting the old filter back in. I just need to find the right filter by my next flushing in January!

I change mine the beginning of every year.......Overkill....BUt ohh well.......
Well i suggest every 30k. Changing it too much can also kinda hurt since ATF is a detergent and can eat away older seals as the tranny gets more wear.
Roflao! Did you even READ what you wrote?!?! "I shouldn't change my fluid often being it will eat the seals"..........You do realize that your trans components are soaked in that fluid right? If you were right, your trans would be eaten out reguardless of your changing cycles!

Trust me my friend, The only thing changing of my fluid yearly hurts is my wallet! The only way changing your fluid is a bad thing is if you were to wait too long, like say 80k and then change it. Chances are your trans wouldn't shift properly after then..........

Besides, I also put on average 25k on my truck per year, so its really not that early!

Naw i didn't know that..... I don't really know much about cars.

OK i agree on that one. My point is yes ATF is a detergent right? Do we at least agree on that? OK, when you put that into a tranny it tends to want to clean/eat some grime and thats why we have a filter. Filter catches most dirt particles. However the ATF looses some of its effectiveness once it gets contaminated with dirt meaning it no longer really poses a threat to seals. Then you replace it with new fresh ATF and the whole cycle starts over until the ATF wears in and once again looses its effectiveness to clean.

Well what im saying is changing it like say every 10k is prob putting more hurt on it than anything. But since you say you put about 25k on it before servicing tranny than that seems ok.

I searched Advance Auto Parts and located several part numbers that were different from Autozone.

Fram FT1217 - Says its for the 4WD
Pioneer Prods 745174 - 2 7/8 pan
Pro King FK324 - 16 Bolt deep pattern pan, 2 7/8 thick, stepped bottom

We charge $99.95 for Mercon III
$120 for Mercon 5
$180 for Mercon SP in the torqeflite trans.

This is just to flush it, which "backflushes" the lines and the filter, doing a better job of cleaning the system. Not just changing the filter and topping it off. Which is recommended every 120,000 miles if you flush at every 30 k.

Changing the filter and topping off you would probably spend more money, due to labor.

Auto Zones are like the McDonald's of car parts places. I go there only if I want some fuzzy dice or air freshner. The young, minimum wage employees don't have a clue about cars.

Ok...
I work there. Maybe I shouldn't say that but it is part time. I have a real job during the day.

I admit, it is hard to know every car and everything about it because we don't see the car we just here what you have to say about it.

I admit there are some dumb :censored: mother :censored: up there that have no idea what is going on.

The guy that didn't know about the timing cover gasket for a small block Chevy is a :censored: idiot.

Part time.... I couldn't work anywhere else. I mean I get to talk about cars all night. That's great. And yes, I do get stumped sometimes. I don't know everything.

I will say this. I hate the shop and will never take my trucks there if I can help it. I changed tires for 5 years so I am a little familiar with the under side of a vehicle.

Oh, the discount is cool too.... :D

Oh,

This is my thought….

I looked this up.

2005 full size Chevy truck uses a 4L60E also… There is an option… Does it have a deep pan or shallow pan? That is the question you would be asked if you were looking for this filter for the full size.

OK… The Colorado uses the same transmission (from what I have learned from this site) I have the 5sp.

The computer doesn’t ask this question for the Colorado.

Part No. For full size Chevy
Deep Pan – TF351 (same as what is given for the Rado)
Shallow Pan – TF320

I bet (guessing) the Rado has the shallow pan on it just from what was described at the beginning of the thread. So, it is probably part # TF320. I have not had a customer come in for this so I don’t know if this is really true. Just a guess.

Well, I hope this helps…

AUTOZONE RULE! They've got the cheapest prices and i dunno it just feels more friendly when i go in there compared to Kragen/Checker/Shucks those guys just seem like rude retards lol. Napa is cool to but they're more of a distributor to shops with a small selection of parts on display. They've got everything in stock tho ill give em that.

This one time, I actually figured out exactly what parts I needed before going to ANY autoparts store, because 9 out of 10 they don't want to bother with going through the computer and when they do they make mistakes. Going to a dealership is just plain stupid, they mark up EVERYTHING. Hell I'm surprised they don't charge for toilet use when your there.

Not their fault you didn't know what parts you needed.
