Just wanted to say, after reading about the guys who switched from 87 or 89 ocatane to 92 and felt a bit more boost that I wanted to try it for myself. I had my tune loaded on the first week of December ran it for couple days then switched from 87 to 92 octane from Costco since there gas is the cheapest on the island. Honestly did not notice any difference. First fill up with Texaco this morning, and noticed that there was more power during the acceleration without pressing the pedal as I normally did. Guys who live here in Oahu, you know that it takes a bit more mashing on the pedal when going up H3 or Likelike Highway. Fueling with Texaco really made it more fun driving up on these roads especially with mine being a 4 cylinder.

Both Texaco and Costco are TopTier Gasoline brands, so they both have at least the minimum requirements for "good" gas. It's quite possible that Texaco adds beyond the TopTier minimums, the problem is, you don't really know what those are.

My brother who is a big RV'er says people on RV forums say they get better gas mileage with Shell gas. He checks his gas milege with every fill up, on a blue binder, and he says he gets about 1/2mpg better with Shell pulling his travel trailer

Even better is to find out what day your favorite gas station gets its delivery and get the freshest product...

If you didn't have Premium fuel in your tank when you loaded the tune, it would have recognized knock upon startup and lowered the timing back down to be safe for 87 octane. Once you get some miles on a tank or two of premium, it will reattempt to advance the timing again. It's more than likely related to the order of events and miles driven than it is about supplier in this case. If you're on an island, there's and even greater chance that both stations are supplied with the same fuel.

In summary, If you put 87 back in, you will notice the instant decrease in performance. It takes more time for the computer to advance the timing when switching back to Premium fuel, so the transition back to the performance tune won't be instant. If you need it more instantly, you can reflash the tune again once you have premium in the tank.

Been quite awhile since I lived on Oahu. I recall there were 2 refineries/suppliers on the island who supplied the gas to retail stations. I'm not sure there was much difference other than some additives/detergents, etc. required by the retailer/brand. So I don't know if one brand was/is better than the others.
