Colorado P20EE Code - Where would you start?

I have a 2017 Colorado that I bought new in 2017 from Rydell Chevrolet. I have approximately 169,000 miles.

The main issue I have had is transmissions.

Reman from Chevy Valencia - Approx $8k at about 120k miles
Failed at about 140K
Reman warranty from Chevy AV under warranty
Failed 169k
Independent shop rebuilt, picked up yesterday, many upgrades to address common failure points in transmission.

I replaced the first NOX sensor myself about 2 months ago for the second time. It cleared that code.

Pickup my truck from trans shop yesterday and on way home it threw P20EE. SCR NOX Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1.

Though probably unrelated to the trans repair, I will call them.

Question: I don't want to throw parts at the problem. Where should I start?

  1. Drain and test DEF - I would need to get tester
  2. Drain and replace DEF
  3. Force regen or other computer process? I have OBPLink MX+ 44981 reader, but that's it.
  4. Possible computer issue related to trans work update/reprogram etc?
  5. Other?
Many thanks in advance!

Happy Holidays!

Could be the NOx sensor again, if it were due to unrelated work then it would be a different code due to no communication with the sensor. The DPF and regens have nothing to do with the DEF/SCR system.

I would start by using an OBD-II scantool or adapter to read the NOx sensor readings to see if one of the sensors is being erratic.

Did you use a GM replacement sensor or aftermarket? Also, which NOx sensor did you replace? If you replaced the downstream sensor then that's not the same sensor that triggers the P20EE, that code comes from the sensor before the SCR.

Thanks everybody!

I replaced the upstream sensor with a AC Delco sensor.

Drove truck today, drives fine. After 100 miles, the Poor Quality DEF Message came up with the 100 mile countdown.

Checked codes again, now it is P249D and P20EE.

I hooked up OBD and saw 0 voltage on either O2 Sensor 1 and O2 Sensor on the OBDLink app. Is this what I am looking for? Or somewhere else in the app to see specifically NOx?

Thanks!

You're correct, P20EE is upstream, P11DB is downstream. Fixed my post.
