Just reserved 2023 Colorado Z71 that is incoming. Hopefully in 2-3 weeks it arrives and we can drive it and see if it is to our liking.

Any comments on if it is worthwhile to get any of the following. We plan to use it for travel and possibly towing travel trailer. Very mild off road use may occur.

1) Chevrolet offered tonneau covers? Soft roll-up? Hard folding?
2) Re-configurable bed rails
3) Standard or spray on bed liners?
4) Cargo Tie-Down Rings
5) All-weather floor mats or liners?
6) FLEX UTILITY PACKAGE
7) Anything else?
Thanks for your time.

Ron

Congratulations on the new Z/71. When I ordered my Denali I didn't select any of the dealer installed options from the B&P tool, they are priced significantly higher than what I can buy the parts for, and I figure if the dealership is installing them I am capable of doing it myself...I do believe there is a warranty on the accessories if you order with the truck (I wanna say 12 mos but would have to confirm), but I don't see that as justification for paying probably twice the price to have the dealer install them. So far I have ordered, or plan to order, the following.

Front and rear splash guards
Perimeter bed lighting kit
Cargo tie down kit
All weather floor liners (F&R)
Hard folding tonneau cover
Bright exhaust tip
and a ridiculously expensive GMC first aid kit, just because, LOL

I'm sure the list will grow but these are where I am starting

My build would be for frequent off-road and snowy conditions, hauling sporting equipment (kayaks, mountain bikes, skis). For this I've scoped out:

• AMP bed extender
• Retrax retractable tonneau cover
• Yakima Overhaul HD bed racks
• Rhino rack side mounted ski and rod carrier
• In-bed molle panels

Maybe some maxtrax recovery boards and a compressor

Great list. I want the first three. Retracted retractable cover is very impressive. Thanks for your input. Are you aware of any bike racks that are installed in the bed instead of off the rear trailer hitch?

I would definitely get the factory spray on bedliner. I used to work for a place that did spray in after the fact, and while much thicker, they're pulling a lot of parts off the truck and sanding off all the paint before application. Just leaves room for broken plastic clips and maybe sanding paint off in a place where it won't be recoated.

As for the tonneau covers, on my 21 ZR2 I had bought a GM trifold. Within one month the vinyl started to crack. On my 22 Z71, I bought one off Amazon. Works just as good and holds up better for 1/2 the price.

My black Z71 off roading will be in my yard.
Spray In Bed Liner (Probably Bullet, similar to LIne-X)
No factory spray in liner because of the delay and having to be loaded and unloaded an extra time from the transport truck
Fender Moldings
BAK Revolver X4s roll-up tonneau cover
Re-use my Ridgeline bed extender (I'll make it work)
Bed mat
Black exhaust tip
Black front bumper cover to replace silver one
Chevy slush mats
12v extension for my current electronics (radar detector, GPS and dash cam)
Bull bar and lights or off road sports bar with Colorado name cut out with lights
Who knows what else!!

I guess things must have changed as they used to drive the truck across the street to get the bed sprayed, along with some accessories installed.

OP, not sure why you want the bed rails. ?????
tonneau is your choice, no idea on prices or what your use would be.
I have a hard roll up- aluminum slates go across and rolls up, Truxedo Sentry, keeps the honest guys out and the grandson thinks it is a dance stage
GM floor mats are better then most anything out there, hince why they cost a bit more

google a set of bull rings to compare prices as they are easy to install, same ones fit silverados and colorados

I agree on the bed rails. The Truxedo looks interesting. Do you know if Yakima HD bed racks be installed with the Truxedo Sentry tonneau?

Line X spray on liner
Aftermarket stainless based tubular running boards
TST rustproof/undercoat package
Probably look at some type of Silverado wheels as I'm not a fan of the stock 18's (or the 20's),
Possibly a dual pin stripe in red to match the seat stitching.
K& N filter
I guess that's about it for now. Depends if the aftermarket supports it. Would love to get a tune that would put it in the low 5 second 0-60 range but not sure if I would do it before the warranty is up or if that's even doable on stock injectors/pumps without going really radical,

If you're thinking floor liners, go with the GM. I've had husky and weather tech in various vehicles and the GM are by far the nicest.

I tend to agree, even though the GM ones are pretty spendy. As I mentioned above, I didn't order them with my truck because I can save a few bucks by buying them myself from the various OEM parts discounters, plus...and this is a big one, if you order the floor liners with the truck, they delete the standard carpeted floor mats, and I like using those for the summer and put the liner pans in for the winter months.

Just an idea for anyone ordering a new truck and wants both the carpeted mats and the floor liners. I bought my 2021 Colorado CCSB from stock and then ordered the Chevy Floor liners from the Chevy.Com website. I paid a couple of dollars less for the liners than if you order them with the vehicle and had the carpeted ones as well which are in my garage brand new. I prefer the floor liners all year round so don’t use the carpeted ones.

I bought the Bison addition, most everything was standard, (rocker guards, steel bumpers, all weather floor mats, sprayed on bed liner, remote start and more all std.). I installed the self roll up bed cover, lockable, love it. AEV trans guard. 1.25” leveling kit and 33” tires. HID bulbs in head light and fog lights. KC back up and Ditch lights. Now heres what I broke so far. One shock, front drive shaft/CV boot, three stock tires and one fog light bezel which fell off some place along the way, all within 18,000 miles. Good luck and have fun.

As a reminder - you may have Chevy points that can be used. The GM side steps ($395) only cost me 120 dollars after discount on accessories.chevrolet.com website and Chevy points. I then ordered the all weather floor mats for the front ($95) and they only cost sales tax ($6.00) with Chevy points. I used some 10% coupon codes, etc for more savings.

I am waiting (& waiting) on my 2023 Colorado Z71 which is apparently built, but no one can tell me when it will actually be shipped from Wentzville, MO. I didn't order a Tonneau cover, but the Bakflip MX4 looks interesting. I'm also wanting step rails and like the $995 option they offer in Chevy's build site. Does anyone know if there is an after-market equivalent offered somewhere?

#31 ·
I'm familiar with the Bakflip MX4 Trifold which I've had on previous pickups but my neighbor has BAK Revolver X4S hard rolling cover on his RAM 3500 and loves it. Does anyone have some experience with the BAK Revolver X4S and can share their opinion? Seems like I have a while to make up my mind since my Z71 has been manufactured but is sitting in the Bedrock Quarry holding lot for 2 months now---------. Don't know when the truck will ship.

#32 ·
I don't have an opinion on the X4S as it is still in the box awaiting a truck to put it on, but I have one.

#36 ·
It has a drain as well, which I presumed was next to the rope in the photo.
I recall one review that mentioned the threaded insert in the stowflex and that it was intended for future accessories.

Just found some kicker speaker like the ones in the full size trucks.
