This is the ham/commercial version.

Got all my parts now.

If you follow my idea then you’ll need to make sure you drill a relief hole for the rj45. Otherwise it’ll be hard to remove the cable.

This allows everything to be hidden when not in use. Which is like 95% of the time.

Or it’s simply stored in the bottomless pit that is the center console.

Where, what and how did you mount the antenna?

Yeah if I had more patience I probably would of just used a 90 extension or cut it off and added a new one.

But /effort

I have installed a small Midland CB/PA/WX radio in the driver side footwell. Antenna mount is I believe for a Ford F250, sorry can't remember exactly. Firestik 90 degree flat antenna cable. See attached photos.

Clean install. Getting ready to install a GMRS radio and am going to put it in the same place.

Where did you pull power from for the radio? I was thinking about tapping into a power source inside the cab. If not I will run power through the firewall.

Was going to mount my antenna similar to yours. I have round coax cable and the hood gap was too small for the cable. Plan on making a mount to go off of the ditch light mounts I have.

I went with a GMRS radio. Havent gotten the courage to drill a hole in the roof yet, but the antenna for my radio requires a ground plane, and to be at least 13" from obstructions, so I went with a mag mount, and wired the antenna cable through the 3rd brake light (had to add some weather stripping), and down the headliner to reach my radio.

Did you get your radio power from inside the cab or did you pull power from the engine bay?

(Getting ready to install a GMRS radio in my Colorado.)

In my case, I went to a local stereo/accessory shop that I've used in the past and had them run power from the fusebox takeoffs under the hood, through the firewall, along the driver's side and to the back of the cab to a BlueSea fusebox. (2/0 cable - I think I can pull all 100A through it if I want <g> Overkill but that's what they had as spare cable lying around so they didn't charge me for it.) It runs through a breaker under the hood and then to a relay powered via the accessory circuit to only provide power when the key is on. My Kenwood D710 body is under the rear passenger seat along with the Whistler TRX-2 scanner body; their faceplate cables run under the carpet, along the passenger side and behind the dash, then into the faceplate jacks I cut in. All you see is two faceplates and two short ethernet patch cables.

You pulled 2/0 AWG into the cab? That's what I use for my winch power. I don't even think I could fit it under the interior trim or the carpet without an odd bulge somewhere.

I came in through the can vents on the back wall of the cab.
Mount your antenna. Get the wire into the bed. Under the bed rail there is openings that will allow you to pass the wire between the inner and outer bed panels and drop to the ground. Secure the wire.
Inside the truck flip back seat forward and remove the plastic panel and pull insulation back from lower corner to expose cab vent.
I used a coat hanger to push through the vent and directed it down to my antenna wire. Then use electrical tape to secure antenna wire to coat hanger and pull it through.

I know that you ran the coax without a connector. My coax does not have a removable connector. Do you think that a connector will fit through the cab vent?

"Non Ground Plane" midland 3dBi phantom GMRS antenna on a Rago mount. Really just posting to trigger people lol.

Great write ups everyone.I am looking to install a smallish CB in my Z71, I am looking at a couple from Right Channel Radio with a Little Wil antenna. I will definitely be referencing this article for help on installing them.

Installed my Icom ID-5100 in my 2017 Denali this past weekend. Very happy with the results.

Used a Greenlee chassis punch to put a hole in the roof. Ran the coax down the rear passenger pillar and underneath the rear storage area to the radio.

Image

Radio body located under the rear passenger seat. I bought a cheap cutting board and mounted the radio to it and secured to the floor with outdoor Velcro.

Image

External speaker attached underneath the rear seat. Drilled holes for the bolts and a hole for the speaker wire. Cant even see it when the seats are down. Speaker points directly at my right ear.

Image

Used a razor to slice a slot in the carpet and ran the microphone and control head cable from the rear seat, along the driver side of the center console, and then up behind the USB/Aux and 12V port. Used a dremel to cut holes and installed flush mount RJ45 and RJ12 panel mounts. Microphone plugs into left side and control head on the right.

Image

Microphone hangs on drivers side. Easy to access and does not interfere at all.

Image

Used a Ram adhesive mount for the control head. It was attached to the bottom of the cubby hole but would not hold. Attached it to the smooth wall opposite of the USB and panel mounts and it is solid.

Image

Power ran from the battery, through the firewall where the clutch would be on a manual transmission, along the driver side door well to the back seat, underneath the carpet to the radio.

I had to remove the storage area but it was really easy. Just unscrew the metal bolts and the plastic carpet screws and it comes right out. There are cut outs in the carpet for the metal support rod and that is where the power line and coax popped out.

I realize this install is not for everybody. You have to drill holes if you don't want wires all over the place. I wanted a clean and professional look and am very happy with the results.

Very nice install! Good pics also.
This is similar to what I'm planning. I'm still awaiting delivery of my '22 AT-4. Will post photos of my installation, once complete.
I'm curious about one thing- Could 2 RG-8 (~3/8" dia.) coax fit under the driver-side door kick/trim?

Thanks!
