Brake Light Out - Just One

The driver's side Brake Light does not light when the brakes are applied. The 3rd and passenger side still light up just fine. My first thought was the bulb, but the bulb works fine in all other modes (hazard, keyless remote, tail lamp, turn signal).

I had the brake light switch replaced when the recall came out a few years back.

I'm just wondering why the driver's side isn't working only when the brakes are applied. Any suggestions as to where I should start the trouble shooting? Fuse? Wiring? Brake Light Switch?

Thanks

I have a 2007 Canyon reg. cab 4x4 bought new that only has 15,000 miles on it so far. About a month ago a guy told me my brake light wasn't working on the drivers side. I took it to the dealer under warrenty expecting it to be the bulb since I'd checked and all my other lights were working. They checked and said the terminals were burnt and ordered me a new harness for the brake light. They said they see it all the time on new cars but not so much on trucks. They put the new harness in and all is well. But a funny side note: The service manager said no wonder GM is going broke. GM parts didn't just send the harness but the whole taillight assembly with all the harnesses (brake and tail lights) They showed me a flaw in the new red plastic lens so I decided to keep mine and so they changed everything over to mine. So this may be your problem, the contacts for some reason being burnt if all your other lights work.

I am feeling your pain. I have an 2006 Colorado with no drivers side brake light. This is the second time, the first time this happened I took it to the dealership and they said that a wire had burnt and then caused the fuse to blow. Isn't the fuse supposed to blow before the wires melt ? In any case they blamed it on the trailer that I was pulling, saying that there was a short in the wiring on the trailer. When I checked the fuses the last time they were a ok. I did check the fuses today and they are all good, so I am going with the burnt wire theory next. I am going to dive into it today and if I find the problem I'll send you an update.

wow, i'm not going to say that hasn't happened to me, just don't want to jynx myself...but do you guys know of anything that can be done to maybe make it less likely to burn?? maybe a lower wattage bulb??

use replacement LED bulbs. almost no current draw at all..meaning lowered over all wattage and no burning.
but thats a fix to the problem, not a fix to the real problem of bad sockets.

and go to auto zone and buy new sockets and splice them in for a fix.
