Anyone find a good solution for an air mattress for the 2015 colorado? I bought the Napier one and am returning it. Misunderstood the description and it doesn't fit around the wheel wells, it fits between them. That won't work for the girlfriend and I. I've seen the one from AirBedz, and that looks decent but was wondering what you all have done. Thanks for the help!

That's something I look into myself, as I'm planning to equip an ARE shell to the back. There are mattresses...

  1. that fit in between the wells...
  2. mattresses that go around them...
  3. and mattresses that go around and over them (AirBedz, as you noted).

After much research, I concluded that two people cannot sleep in between the wells alone, which was what I was originally planning so that I could build some over-the-well shelving. It will still work of course, but just for singular camping.

Everything I've read about the mattresses that go around the wells is that you tend to roll off into the gap between the protruding well and the mattresses well interior. That kind of discomfort is unacceptable. I'd rather buy a standard mattress that squeezes a little bit against the wells.

For the ones that go over wells, I'm pretty sure that's what you'll want. It's not only wide enough for two, but there'd be no rolling off. It wouldn't work in my case because then I wouldn't be able to put in the shelving. Also the ones that go over the wells sit rather high, requiring (IMO) a canopy lift like EZ Topper.

Though... camping in a short bed?

I have the air mattress and tent for the bed with the 4' awning for the tailgate from my first gen, and it all fits like a glove still. Ends up being equavalent to a queen size mattress in the bed when inflated. I love it. Used to have pics on my profile, but I don't anymore. I'll see if I can find the brand for y'all.

I'm not sure about the price vs. an air mattress, but if you take the measurement to a mattress store they can probably cut a custom piece of memory foam for the bed. This is what I plan on doing - had it done before for a boat. Super comfortable. I don't have my truck yet so don't know how well this would work yet though...
