Air Conditioning Always On

I have a 2020 Colorado 4WD Z71 Crew Cab Short Box with the 3.6L V6. The air conditioning seems to always be on even though the A/C and Recirc indicator lights are both off. The A/C compressor clutch is always engaged during these times. The only way I have found to stop this condition is by turning the climate control off. I have the thermostat set on 68° and when I raise that temperature to 80°, the air will be warmer but, the compressor clutch continues to spin. Any fans out there have any suggestions or explanations? Thank you in advance.

Yes, that's normal. Climate control is more than temperature control, it's also humidity control and there is a humidity sensor. With vehicles, temperature + humidity = climate and the climate control uses the A/C to manage humudity.

I noticed my 16 half way through my 4.5 he drive to work sunday night, my ac came on, and was staying on.
I usually leave on floor and vent, ac button off, not with floor and defrost, so the ac will not kick on from defrost to control humidity, to just draw in outside air, I haven't had a chance to look through to see.
Other trucks I have had, I just unplugged the ac clutch so I could leave on floor and defrost and not have ac turn on.

Curious why you cared enough to go to such lengths to keep the A/C off.

Is a noticable hit in mpg.
And i drive with the windows down, or atleast cracked, almost year round, soooooo why have it on.
Guys I work with kill me with ac.
I like the fresh air, being hot and sweaty, can cool down and feel alot better with a breeze than a freezer.
I don't have allergies but I can breath better in the fresh air than I can in ac.

In the 6 years I drove my crossfire, I don't think I turned the ac on maybe 5 times, when wife was not with me.
The ac button in that mercedes when it was off, it would not run even if the defroster was on, which I liked, inwas hoping the canyon was the same way.

I am one of the rare people that wanted the sliding rear window when I bought my truck, and I use it all the time, I just nees to make it power.

For you fuel economy misers that like to drive with the windows down, I guess you haven't seen this old Mythbusters episode... :D Granted, that's at highway speed. But they also tested A/C on and A/C off with windows up and the difference was within the margin of error, basically the aero drag far exceeds the parasitic drag caused by the A/C compressor such that the extra power needed to drive the compressor isn't enough to matter at that point.

Around town, low speed, etc, sure, windows down and A/C off is better and the fresh air is nice. Totally get the dry air from A/C, especially if you spend all day in an office or building where the A/C is blasting most of the time, no arguing with personal preference. Just not so sure on the fuel economy aspects, but not here to argue. Just find this amusing. :D

I have seen that. Under 55 mph, windows open is more efficient than A/C and I do roll my windows up on the freeway. I looked in the Settings today. Under climate, the only thing I could find was to turn off auto front and auto rear defrost, but nothing about turning off the A/C completely. It's really humid here right now and the A/C was on the whole way into work this morning. I tried all sorts of things to turn it off. I really don't like my vehicle thinking for me. (I really sound like an old man.)

Seen it :)

Changes with rear window open

:p

I still rather have windows down, and like the air blowing on my feet.
Than ac

This has been discussed several times before
A Google search may find the answers that have been given
Drax's answer is probably the best ever given

Just for the info, I too have experienced the annoying A/C, but it has a mind of its own. With AC off There have been days thst it cycles, stays on, and days like recently, it will stay off and its really humid here in Swampton. I can't make sense of it but I can't make sense of the Auto either. I can't tell if the damn auto is on or off. A few weeks ago, maybe months, I was tweaking with the Auto to make sure it was off and I believe it still is.
OP, see if your auto is off and try it.
