AC fan noise

When driving with the AC on, I seem to hear an excessive amount of compressor fan noise or "whirring" at low speeds. It goes away when I turn the AC compressor off.

I may just be noticing it because the cabin in this truck is so **** quiet compared to every other truck I've had.

Anyone else noticed this? Worth a (50 mile) trip to the dealer to have it checked out? Could it be a sign that the AC system is overcharged?

I noticed on mine when I get in and start it, I turn the fan on to circulate some outside air in my truck. The a/c compressor kicks on. Dealer said this is normal. I said it seems to me it would wear out the compressor faster because I hurry up and turn it off. Sure wish I didn't have to always turn the a/c off each time I turn the fan on. I just have the regular climate controls, no automatic climate control.

Mine whines like a fat kid forced to eat at the salad bar (I am a fat guy too). Sounds like an 20 year old power steering pump. They can't all sound like that.

I was sitting at idle and turned the AC system (whole thing) off and I could tell that the engine was running it was so quiet.

There is something wrong when the compressor is louder than the engine.

Gonna take it in I guess. Didn't sound like that on the others that I test drove.

Mine sounds normal. Hmm. I did notice that the A/C blows colder now that the truck has a few miles on it. I believe the compressor needed some break in time.

I think it's the compressor adaptation like our TCM lol. Jk. Mine is loud too, I notice that when it gets close to the desired temperature (have it on all auto) it kicks in and off. My understanding is that the compressors in these trucks is a variable load compressor to improve mpg.

I'm guessing you mean the condenser fan at the radiator? Everyone seems to be talking about the blower. Anyway, it's electric and can get noisy, I don't think I can really hear mine from inside. Maybe if I really paid attention, not sure. The charge of the AC isn't going to change the sound of the fan. Could be a problem, I've never noticed mine to be very loud, even outside. Maybe you could ask them to take a quick listen at a shop. Oh also take a look, could be a old plastic bag or something stuck in there????? A good visual inspection is always the first step anyway.

I have this too, at first I thought it was transmission related because for me the sound would get higher in pitch as the rpm's went up and my ear could hear a difference when the transmission changed gears. I cut off the A/C and blower and all is smooth and quiet. After I realized it wasnt the trans, I was relieved and lost interest. It also kinda sounds like electrical feed back, but its not. The A/C otherwise works very well.
