2023 Z71 Trying to find a trailer hitch

I bought a new black 2023 Z71 from the local dealer. One of the first things we talked about was towing. 7700 lbs sounded good. There was a little more talk about towing and then we closed the deal. Stupid me never looked for the receiver until the deal was closed. This was a truck that someone ordered and then changed their mind. Yes, you guessed it NO RECEIVER. The dealer offered to pay for a hitch and the after market braking controls installed by a local truck outfitter.

The outfitter ordered the parts and was able to install the wiring but the hitch would not fit without cutting some support in the hitch area. I don't know what it was but I have all the wiring but no receiver. I ran into the same problem the outfitter had - NO one has a receiver for a 2023 Colorado Z71.

U-Haul listed one and I ordered it but I have not received a confirmation or an answer to where is my order.

I have tried Reese, Etrailer, Real truck, Draw Tight, etc., etc.

Now my only hope is U-Haul.

Does anyone have any ideas?

The new hitch 86796043 is installed. The parts dept. at the local dealership ordered one and we waited and waited and it finally arrived. The shop installed it(the bumper was removed to install). So in spite of the strike, and a shortage I finally have a receiver rated at 7700 lbs. Link to Chevy parts - 2023 GM Trailering Package, 7, 700-Lb Capacity 86796043 | GMPartsDirect.com

The other problem you have is that the truck is rated for 3500lbs I believe if you don’t have the z82 package that comes with the g80 locking differential. I don’t know how much the actual diff will affect your towing I’m just letting you know that towing over 3500lbs just adding the receiver isn’t supported by GM.

The G80 adds zero to the tow rating and isn't required to reach the max tow rating, it never made a difference with the 2nd gen either but for some reason GM has decided to include the G80 as being required to get max tow when the locker has nothing to do with tow capacity.

I thought I read here that the UHaul hitch that someone ordered for their 2023 didn’t fit and was actually for the second generation, even though it was listed as fitting the 2023s. I hope I’m wrong for your sake.

Hell, I have the last year 2nd generation and they sent me a correction for my owners’s manual. You would think all the bugs would be worked out of a…. book by then.

There’s one advertised on eBay motors. Class 3 and is said to guarantee fit. Was thinking of ordering one. Check it out!

Now that you no longer do the installations, maybe he’s good to go.
