My dealer installed the update via USB last week. I have not noticed any of the symptoms that others experience. In fact, except for the dead battery and being without my truck for the day, I have had no other impact from this problem.
I would travel 500 miles to a dealership that could do that vs. saying a failed software update requires the whole dashboard being ripped out. o_O

I had the dead battery on Saturday morning. Took off the negative battery cable and charged full. Then let it sit overnight and most of the next day with connecting the battery. Connected the negative and it started up fine. Had a check engine light on, but it went out after a couple of start and stops. Monday, I had the apple car play disappear while driving. The phone showed connected and I could get sound, but the screen was just black when I would touch the carplay symbol on the screen. Reset the infotainment system and it came back on and no issues sense.

I can't help but wonder : because these new trucks can be updated wirelessly, and updated themselves, how prone are they to hacking ? Can it be hacked or the signal hijacked while it's trying to download ?

I am curious because we are always hearing on the news about people who claim they are fighting for the environment and ruining people's vehicles by breaking windows and flattening tires or puncturing fuel tanks. It would be just one more way for them to commit properly damage and not get caught.

Or worse, having your vehicle hacked while you are driving it. That could easily get people hurt.

Do you have the purple SHUTDOWN?

It’s been possible before this.

I would like to see a poll on what model this is happening on. From socail media and youtube it looks like it is more of a trail boss issue then a z71 or lt issue. I also went ahead and turned off the quickstart and update options just to see what happens but my battery has been staying at aroune 13.8 since i got the truck

Cut off is Trucks manufactured sometime in April and before. All models. Likely wont impact ZR2/AT4X due to when they first started rolling

Please let me know. Any info on the fix appreciated. Where are you? I’m in Phoenix.
I'm in California, and my manufactured date was March 23 so it does fall in line with the "affecting vehicles manuf before April". They just reiterated what they told me before, that the ota update was the culprit and a new update fixed the bricking of the clusters. I now have it back and so far no issues, I'm just seeing the purple shut down message when I turn it off but it goes away promptly. Im attaching the dealer notes here too for anyone that wishes to see them.

I talked to my dealer today. Mine should be updated on Friday. They said the tech has to stay on the line with Chevrolet advisors applying updates and watching for what it does. The one they did today took 7 hours to update.

The said the one done two days ago was taken home and called today saying that the A/C isn't working properly. The one done yesterday they haven't heard back from.

We'll see how tomorrow goes.

This is kind of hilarious that this is still a thing, this will be my last GM vehicle, I have a 2017 that had the (then) battery issue if I selected the higher idle for cold weather go figure it does the opposite of whats needed and causes the alternator to stop charging until the truck would die. Turning the lights on will crank up the voltage on the alternator, as well as putting it in tow mode. They take our 35-60k and sell us a half assed product. Then pretend like their are no issues unless we swarm them them like Flys on ****. **** GM! Whoever is having musty smell in their truck probably is running the recirculationtion to much or needs to get the leaves out from under the hood in front of the intake vent, you can shove a hose into the a.c. condenser line. It's by the pedal under the centerconsole under the carpet takes about 45 mins diy, spray a mix of lysol and foaming cleaner up there.

This is a 1st gen for the truck. If you buy one you have to have some understanding that thier are going to be bugs and this one has so much more tech in i am not shocked. Just have to roll with it and stay on top of it.

Does anyone know of the "bulletin number/document ID" that fixes the "bricked" radio and cluster, so I can reference it to my tech? Or do you think giving them the TAC contact number here would be enough? Thanks for any help, as I want my truck back. When I took the truck in I gave them 23-NA-126:ID6385858 which they performed and that blacked out my radio and instrument panel.

I was just told by the dealer my dash and radio was bricked with the update. National backorder - no ETA.

Awesome.

Started a case with Chevrolet customer care and supposedly the dealer arranged for rental but it's a car so that's useless to me for replacing a truck.

TAC number might be enough but I honestly can't say for sure. And I haven't seen and bulletin out document ID that shows a fix. But if they're on contact with the head office techs then I would think they would be aware of the new update that fixes it. Otherwise I would say it might be something else.

As stated before, there should be a new update that fixes the bricked clusters now and should be an easy fix. I was in the same position but I picked my truck up yesterday and have had no issues since.

Hello, I too have a 2023 Colorado Z71 with the battery issue. Dropped it off at the dealer on 7/21/2023 and just got a call from them today. They said they got a reply from GM with a temporary solution which is replacing battery and going into settings and turning off both download updates in background and download updates via WiFi when available. Chevy said they will manually look for updates when I come in for oil changes until a permanent fix is found. Should be able to pick up the truck after work hopefully.
Ive had my Colorado back since Monday now. All seems to be running smoothly. They reloaded the software update. Evidently the first one just kept running the background and trying to update, thus draining the battery. Just hope this is a one and do e problem.

You could reach out to Wilson Co . Motors in Lebanon Tn , ask for Kyle and ask exactly what they supposedly did. GM totally screwed up this time. They opened a case with GM with my truck so an engineer was involved. This has been an unfortunate situation for many people. I would as
Also call GM Customer service so they know what your issue is. I was going to call them if they couldn't get to the bottom of this issue.

I got my truck back (March build 2023 TB) after 2 days of the dealer unable to get the update to install. My understanding is it has an interim update installed with tech service that flashes “SHUTDOWN” on the DiC when I turn the truck off. They informed me there would be a final fix in a later OTA update. I see two update files in the history, and now have Android 12. Everything else seem to work. Data plan was missing ( in trial) but OnStar quickly re-enabled.
