Just got my truck back. Dealer claimed they did a USB download. I now get a purple shutdown message when turning truck off. They also claimed they shut off the download in background and connect to Wi-Fi when available options. Neither were shut off so I turned them off and also turned off updates for onstar and quick start up option. Want to thank the person who recommended to check fuse connections too. Over half we're not pushed in all the way. It's nice to know there are people out there who care and share advice. Will report back if it dies again.

Anyone have any ZR2s with the dead battery issue ? I know there is not many ZR2s out there right now I am just wondering if it is an early built date problem, since the ZR2s are were built a few months later. Since I have not seen really a straight answer on what is causing the issue, what I have seen is most likely is it is a bad update , but I saw someone saying it could be something physically bad that needs to be replaced. If anyone knows and can clarify thanks.

Wondering if anyone has this issue of the cluster not turning off like it's supposed to? Infotainment screen does turn off after turning off the truck. While the truck is on all the screens work just fine, no issues with the brakes, check engine light, or other warning lights.

(I still have to check on the fuses but the truck is not with me at the moment)
Ive mentioned this a few times, but its normal for the screens to stay on after you exit the vehicle. The shutdown sequence goes something like:

Power down and exit:
Infotainment powers off
Electric Brake light powers off
Door Lock Orange lights power off
DIC Backlight powers off
Green Onstar light powers off
Onstar Backlight powers off

Ive exited the car and all of the above happens in within a minute or two, sometimes it takes longer. After 10 mins in every test I've ever run, all lights go off.

Hey thanks for your reply, that makes sense, but my issue is that the cluster screen is staying on

Hey thanks for your reply, that makes sense, but my issue is that the cluster screen is staying on after those few minutes (black screen with the Shut Down pink text). Before the update it was working just fine, now at random it stays on and won't turn off unless I keep trying turning on/off the truck at a very low success rate. Like I said in my original post, for every 10 times I turn on the truck it only shuts down properly (all screens off) 1-2 times.

Which sucks because I don't want to get off work and come back to a dead truck because the cluster stayed on all day🤷‍♂️
Have you disconnected the battery for 15 mins since getting the truck back?

My truck crashed at the dealer after 3 tries to manually update. All screens are dead, (radio and dash info). They say it needs a new radio, but backordered with no know delivery date. Anyone recover from dead screens tat were fine before manual updates were tried.

My local dealership said they were running the fix to the update that was set out last week that causes the battery to drain and found out the fix fries the radio. I'm assuming he means the infotainment system which I will clarify when they call back tomorrow with a eta update. Not sure of the built date, I ahve had the truck 3 week and purchased it with only 18 miles. Guessing it wasn't sitting long / not many test drives. Another guy at the dealership had his truck 8 months and the issue started last Wednesday (his built date ??).
He can’t have had it 8 months. First trucks never delivered until March earliest.

My dealer stated to me that they have 4 Colorado's in now for the same issue. The first one they tried the Chevy update and it bricked the head unit/screens which are on national backorder. They are trying to get better answers from Chevy before applying updates to another Colorado.

I asked if I should just come and pick mine up but they want to keep it there "to not lose my place"

So I'll give them until Thursday and ask for a loaner Silverado for the weekend.
My dealer has two, (1 is mine), and says only fix is a new radio. Anyone heard anything different. My dealer says they don’t even have an idea on when new radios will ship!

I was in the same position as you, whatever they did "bricked" the cluster. But I got a call from the dealer today and apparently gm now has a new update they are rolling out that is fixing all "bricked" clusters. Apparently my truck is now good to go. I'll keep you all updated when I go pick it up after work tomorrow.

March. Already died once. Been fine since they shut off updates.
I think over the air updates is a horrible idea for a vehicle.

The OnStar service as a whole, I'm not a fan of.

Both vehicles that I own are OnStar capable and I would never pay for, or use, that service.

Please let me know. Any info on the fix appreciated. Where are you? I’m in Phoenix.

I like the idea of over the air updates since I rarely take my vehicles back to the dealership. I do my own maintenance and get the yearly inspection done by a private mechanic. The one time I decided to take advantage of a dealership special on free State inspection, they tried to bamboozle me on a totally unnecessary 4 wheel alignment.

I did not however, predict the ability of an automatic update to totally disable a vehicle. 😬

And therein lies the problem, when your vehicle's computer, is treated as a single node computer, within a much larger WAN (Wide Area Network) which in this case, is OnStar.

I've been a network administrator & in the IT Field, for the last 11 years and I've seen software patches/updates take down individual computers, as well as entire servers, on more than one occasion.

As we've all now seen first-hand, it only takes one screwed-up OTA update, to knock your trucks computer out of whack, to the point where it's undriveable & can leave you stranded.

At least when you go in for a "wired" update at the dealership, you have some control over where & when, it's going to happen & if the update causes a problem, you're already where you need to be, to get the issue resolved and you can get a loaner vehicle, if it's something they can't fix, on the spot.

While a trip to the dealership may be inconvenient to some, it sure beats being stranded somewhere, unexpectedly.

I hate to say this, but I wouldn't be surprised, to see more problems like this surface, somewhere down the road.

Like everyone here my truck was affected, the dealer performed the purple text update Friday the 21st. However, after the update, the gauge cluster does not turn off like its supposed to. Did some testing turning the truck on and off to see if the gauge cluster with the purple "shut down" message would go away but after turning the truck on and off about 6-10 times. It only worked properly (the screen turning off after exiting the vehicle and closing the door) about 2 times. The longest time it stayed on was about 1 hour after exiting the vehicle (gave up and tried again, just wanted to see if it would eventually turn off but nope) also noticed that the little yellow light on the lock symbol in the driver and passenger side would not turn off along with the cluster.

Decided to take it back to my chevy dealer, they did some more testing while we talked to their senior tech. After turning on/off the truck about 5 times the gauge cluster only turned off 1 time.

Ended up talking to the manager of the dealer and they "escalated" my problems to GM (whatever that means). They assured me if the issue wasn't fixed by the 4th repair I could start a buyback process. Got the truck the week before the update hit, and it only has 200 miles... and it has been sitting at the dealer since then waiting for a response/instructions from GM.

My dealer installed the update via USB last week. I have not noticed any of the symptoms that others experience. In fact, except for the dead battery and being without my truck for the day, I have had no other impact from this problem.
