Absolutely. I had my truck on a narrow trail the first couple weeks and airborne before month 2. If you're spending the money and you don't use it, it was bought it for looks.

If you don't use the features, save the money buy a lesser model and do the things you think "look good" and you'll be just as happy.

Without cheating, I challenge anyone to guess how many miles are on my truck and how much off-roading I've done with it. If someone were local I'd even invite them to crawl underneath if they thought it would help with their answer.

The punchline is that going "off road" isn't something that hurts vehicles if you drive them reasonably, keep them clean, and do proper maintenance. I'm 100% certain there are trucks that are the same age and miles as my truck that are in much worse condition and they've never been off pavement.

People should enjoy their vehicles, not pamper them so the next owner gets a pristine vehicle that the previous owner was scared to use the way they wanted. I see/hear so many people talking about how they keep their vehicle clean, covered in the garage, never drive it because they don't want to "hurt the value" or whatever...and I just don't get it. If you're not going to USE the vehicle then why buy it? It's not art. It's not going up in value just sitting there being unused. You paid/are paying for it, use it. Letting it sit (Not that the OP would just let it sit) is worse for it than driving it.

I will accept that challenge, sir. 131,214.7 miles with 16.4 miles of them “on road”.

If not going to take " it " off-road why, why buy it just for the styling . . . . .

I had my Z71 off-road during the first 500 miles to do some basic performance checks and was very pleased with how it handled conditions my previous truck would have more issues with.

Of course on a later outing (well past 500 miles) when a dead tree jumped up and created the first (of many) paint scratches it was 'painful' - - - but as first said, why buy it if you are not going to use it ?

{{ resale value for a 'like new' vehicle is over rated, use & enjoy what you have today . . tomorrow may not come }}

Like Hunter62, I bought my truck to get me to my hunting spots. I have taken it through some nasty spots gor the last 6 years. Mechanically it is still in excellent shape. There are some scratches in the clear coat and a couple of small dings in the door panels from limbs dragging down the side and sticks flying up as I drove over them. I do take it easy over the really rough stuff and I pressure wash the undersides and engine bay when hunting season is over.

As has been said previously, you can take your truck off road and still take care of it by using common sense. And I get the reluctance to bang up a $65k vehicle. But you could get a Trail Boss for $44k or maybe even a tad less.

In 2019, as soon as I got my delivery, I immediately joined an off-road club and took my ZR2 on narrow trails and rock crawling. IF the ever deliver my AT4X ED1 or ZR2 DB, it will be off road ASAP.

If I buy a sportscar it gets tracked, so likewise... off roaders get off roaded. If I can't afford to use it to its capabilities for fear of damage, than I wouldn't have paid extra for the capability in the first place.

The purpose of every vehicle I have bought is to get me to my hunting and fishing spots. From my New 1974 Datsun pickup to the ZR2 I have now. Every vehicle has gotten better in about every way, and yes, more expensive.
But I do take care of them also..
I had just bought my truck an was hoping the toneau cover would arrive before i went elk hunting in Colorado.

I do not "off-road" but drive through pastures, fields and the main thing is wash board roads. In which the ZR2 excels in.

I orded a vehicle, I picked it up on a Friday when the guy was finishing waxing it. I took it goose hunting the next morning after we had several inch of rain, it was covered with mud. not just a little mud either
Well said. I do the same with my ZR2. It gets me to hunting, fishing, and camping spots. Nothing "extreme," mostly just pastures, muddy dirt roads, etc. BTW, I bet elk hunting in CO is amazing!

I bought mine as a tow pig/work horse... after it hit the recommended 500 miles... I've been doing some very questionable things ever since. So I get it.

As far as the sports car, I found out I'm incapable of pushing a car hard around a track without getting violently ill half a lap in... which sucks. So now it's a cruiser back and forth to the boat. 😕

That's unfortunate. Funny enough, it has probably been 15 years since my last "fast" car that I used to occasionally drag race. Then I got my RS3 last year and it launches so hard on the street(s of Mexico) that I get mildy nauseous for that split second. Feels like my soul is trying to exit by body like this. 😂

I believe it. I'm okay in a straight line, had a plaid for a weekend and I'd imagine the launch is similar... kind of mind blowing how hard vehicles can launch now. My problem is once I start twisting I'll onset vertigo/motion sickness. So no pushing it for me anymore. Though I do take the Mexico bypass to the boat every time it seems as I get there awfully quick. ;)

I have that issue on twisty roads like 14 from Ft. Collins to Walden.
I mentioned to the wife about my reservations on buying a boat I amy have the same issues, have not had a problem except sea legs for a few hours afterwards..
fyi: I am deaf in one ear since I was 8 and if I do not keep n eye on it pressure builds up during pollen season, and causes some vertigo issues. I can tell when it happens and knowwhat to do..
cannot jump in a cold/cool swimiming pool

Same here, I go to the Sangres and Wets to hunt, fish and hike. Most of the crap it faces is the county roads. Constantly it is dirty or loaded down in mud. The bed and back seat always have wood, tools or coolers.
