I think the Taco TRD Pro looks good. Maybe not quite as good as the hood-line of the ZR2, but it's 80-90% there, to the point where I wouldn't be concerned and mechanical and other aspects would definitely override it. Flared fenders, lift, big tires, it tends to look pretty decent.

Car and Driver is worthless for truck reviews and the new Tacoma is one of the most hideous exterior designs since the Pontiac Aztek.
Looks are Subjective, I happen to really like the new Tacoma, in person especially. Never really liked the 3rd gen Tacoma. Neither look like the Pontiac Aztek SuV

I think the TRD Pro looks great. 70K great as that is what I think it will cost you with all the crooked dealers - not in my book. Will stick with my ZR2 for 17K less.

Ya you have to find a good dealer. My uncle ordered a TRD Pro for $62k CDN so about $52k US.

Correct - appeal found in these designs is a subjective matter. I find that Korean & Japanese brands have drifted too far into a notchy & angular philosophy that is unappealing to me. Contrast this with Italian or German aesthetics.

Well, I have gotten very positive feedback from people around here. Nothing but great commentary on the looks of our truck. And also honestly, I always get the same question- why the ZR2 over the Toyota Tacoma ? My answer is also always the same - Lockers front and rear. Even Toyota fanboys that actually use it offroad end up with a front locker along with the factory rear locker. And when you take a stock 4RUNNER or Tacoma, add a lift, 33's, bumpers, and skid plates, the fuel mileage is the same or worse.

I look at the new Colorado ZR2 as being the best off road, stock, midsize truck to start a build with. If you offroad, lockers clinches the deal. If you can afford the Bison & go offroad, then that's your Huckelberry ! I am very happy to have ours. It has issues, no doubt, but I am hoping that the issues are corrected by the dealer.

Have an appointment Wednesday to have roof fix installed and fix the front fenders that are pulling out from the body. Fingers crossed ! Lol

Another thing to note is: with some midsize trucks (not sure if the ZR2 is one yet or not but it could be) but the Tacota bed is so flexible that some aftermarket cap/tent makers are saying that the incredible amount of flex in the bed is causing problems holding a canopy camper in place without moving as bed flexes. I am sure we will learn more about this phenomenon as makers keep making things thinner and lighter.

We may have already reached the point where a truck can no longer do truck things because it has to be made to the standards the Gubberment sets. I think that there's a joke there somewhere, lol

How do you turn a truck into a car ? Get the Gubberment involved ! Lol

Same, I am a GM guy, I think the 3rd gen Canyons look tough, but I prefer the Colorado Trail Boss's looks, but I do think the new Tacoma's look good, but looks are subjective

That's odd. I have seen no indications that the models with hybrids (The Pro and Trailhunter) have even had their pricing announced, let alone able to be "ordered".

FWIW, Toyota doesn't do ordering. You list what you want and then they look to see if someone was allocated something close. Luckily, for halo models (like the Pro and Trailhunter) are pretty heavily accessorized and have most options standard. In that case, if you want one, you just get on a list, I know,. I was on a list for a Pro before I decided to buy my Canyon.

Dan Edmunds is a huge Toyota guy. C&D sent him to test the new ZR2 with chevy and he loved it. Loved the interior, loved the engine, loved pitching it sideways in the desert at speed.

He also gets paid for content and he’s the technical editor for C&D now. He is writing for clicks, and they know the Toyota cult will flock to read a glowing review about the truck that Toyota has so graciously bestowed on them after 10 years of overcharging for the same truck with drum breaks and a V6 that pre dates the Obama Administration.

I’m convinced Toyota hates its customers. Dealers mark up everything that’s desirable. The Tacoma gets the 2.4L from the Toyota Highlander. The hybrid isn’t available yet. You will not be able to touch a TRD PRO or Trailhunter for less than 60k USD. To option a TRD OR you’re spending above 50k to have the same options as a base ZR2. To get the Toyota plastic leather and ventilated seats you’re at 55k delivered on the build and price site and still short a front locker.

Give it a few months, we will see how the Tacoma moves off the lot after toyota built to cost the same as comparably equipped full size trucks.

lastly, which may not be important to some is that Tacoma is built entirely in Mexico. The twins are all built in Wentzville.

The new taco is 10/12K overpriced. The end.

GM needs to get their stuff together and iron out every kink with the twins asap. If they do that, combined with the exorbitant prices of the new Toyotas they have a good chance to rule the segment.

At these prices Toyota will only attract fan boys and status symbol fake mall crawlers with these trucks. The SR5 crowd and the lower trim TRD guys will have to seriously consider jumping ship.

I always liked the GMC better, I do like the Chevy better in the Silverado and Colorado this go around.

Tacoma still makes extended cabs and long bed crew cabs, I don't think that's thing their customers. But TRDs are over priced for what ya get.
Offering the long bed in itself will keep some happy. The extra cab is also popular with Tacoma buyers. Nissan also offers the long bed and a V6.

Not quite, you can only get the Prerunner with the extended cab and long bed...that's basically in no way comparable to a 4x4 model. I've seen nothing to indicate they'll offer the TRD Pro or Trailhunter with an extended cab and long bed. You can get the long-bed with the TRD OR, so maybe with the TRD Pro too, but that's about it practically, you can get the long bed, but not the long bed with extended cab...that looks to only be the Prerunner.

TRD pros are like the ZR2s only come with short bed just like Nissans Pro4x. You can get 4x4s in the long bed with Toyota and Nissan. Same with extended cabs. Just not the top of line 4x4s

Yea I miss my 6 foot bed, just bought another ATV today and always have to keep tailgate down. Loved my Suzuki Equator 4x4 crew cab. 6 foot bed comes in handy often.
